My wife thinks my ride is uncomfortable... She ask me if there were more comfortable seats that would fit and to be honest I've only seen people run hardcore racing buckets or stock seats. anyone have pictures of other setups that are affordable, comfortable, and don't squeeze your butt too much? I'm looking for a more modern bucket with a bit of support and more cushion. Neither of us are very tall (i'm 5'9'') so headroom isn't an issue.

Stefan's website: www.classiccarseats.com

Here are 914 options. There may be more, I suggest you call him or shoot him an email.

Full disclosure, Stefan is a friend of mine in addition to my being a customer of his. Having said that, there is nothing in it for me if you do or do not buy from him.

And as you'll hear from everyone:
Stefan is great to work with smilie_pokal.gif and the customization options seem nearly limitless.

Here are my GTS LeMans with grommets and heaters!

I removed the board from under the bottom cushion, lowers it about an inch, which effectively moved the lumbar curve up which helped for me, but I'm 6ft.

I've also replaced the bottom cushion with a cut piece of 1" black foam "autox style" which I also find comfortable. For the girl at the time I folded a bath towel and placed it under the cushion.

I'd suggest trying to mimic a seat she finds comfortable. 914 seats are super basic allowing for foam to be added easily or cut away.

Not sure how comfortable these seats are but they're beautiful looking.....especially the Scheel seats.

Trying to decide if it would be impolitic in this case to ask for a picture of your wife...

Have the GTS Nurburgring seats. Very comfy, fit well in the car, and the Mrs will appreciate they are easy to get in and out of.

Guys

this also is my next big project for next year.
Do any of Stefan's seats have an adjustable backrest ? - it would be helpful for my back but not essential.
In the past,my mechanic has had reservations re Stefan's fitting hardware - is this still the case ?
I like the minimalist look of the Nurburgs - not to mention the getting in / out factor - as the Konigs look a little bulky but then they are an older evolution for our 914s.

Cal - is that first one the Scheel ? - that looks nice - do you know its name / model number ?

TIA

Everyone...
If you have any of Stefan's seats or any other non stock street-able type...
Please post pics of them in your 914...it always helps to see them in the car and how they fit...
Thanks for the great pics above....

I like Stefan's GTS seats. Does anyone have experience with using them with a helmet on that is around 6'? They seem a touch taller than a stock seat and I'm afraid with a helmet I'll be bumping the roof all the time?

Posted by: Steve Nov 16 2017, 11:19 AM

Beware unless they have changed, the konigs are very tight for a small ass. It was super tight for me and I had a 30” waist at the time. I sold them and bought a Lemans seat which is still tight, but not as bad. The Lemans seat and the konig are designed to fit our back pad, so they are not very wide.

Posted by: Elliot Cannon Nov 16 2017, 11:37 AM

I'm another advocate for GTS seats. My 71 year old ass sat in this seat for 500 miles a day when I drove to the Red Rocks Classic in Colorado. Very comfortable. Keep in mind the 914 is NOT a grand touring type of car. It isn't nearly as comfortable as say, a 928. Plus the whole idea of these seats is to fit tight to keep your ass from sliding around during spirited driving. I spoke with Stefan at the toy and literature show at the LAX Hilton last year and he moved to a bigger shop so he can now better serve those who want his seats. biggrin.gif

Two questions:

If you are a bit larger (e.g. 36-38 waist), which seat is wider - the Le Mans or the Nurburgring?

For a harness mount, does anyone know of anything that is more stealth (e.g. less intrusive) than the bar depicted above? I am looking for something that runs behind the seat and mounts at the sides.

I would just call Stefan. He builds the seats to you and certainly knows all the details.

Nurburgring. Check his web site. He lists the dimensions of all his seats

Elliot are those Le Mans or Nurburgring seats...looks great!

Posted by: somd914 Nov 16 2017, 09:30 PM

Here's a fit check of a GTS Classics Nurburgring seat - picked up a pair recently off of Pelican's forum. I need to make a brackets as the factory brackets won't mate to the seat, but it shouldn't be a difficult task.

Seating height is going to be just a bit higher from what I can tell at this point, but they are going to more comfortable and will keep me planted in the twisties. They also fit with the back pad. Parking brake handle will be tight but useable.

Try Renegade Hybrids. I'll snap some photos of my seats in the am...beautiful job, beautiful fit.

Sorry these pictures took a while. These seats are from Renegade Racing. You send them your stock Porsche 914 seats and they recontour, add bolsters, and new padding. The materials are very nice. One of the best things is that they fit right onto stock sliders and seat frames. The support and comfort are great. I'm 5' 8" 155 lbs. with 32 inch waist. There is still room if you're larger. Highly recommend them.

So they now leave their god awful logo off the seats, that is very nice or where these recovered to get rid of it?

I just asked them to leave the logo off. No problem.

That was exactly what I'm looking for. I have wide shoulders so maybe a slightly smaller bolster, but PERFECT.

dgraves...

Nice seats...look great in your 914
what was the cost to do these?

Thanks

May be due to driving for 20 years on stock seats, but any time I drive a 914 with custom seats that are not at least built off of the stock seats/rails the driving position feels odd. The height and angle just always feel wrong and unnatural to me.

In order to add "comfort" you are most likely going to have to add padding, which is going to add height that then puts your thighs into the steering wheel and upsets the angle of your legs in relation to the pedals.

That being said it is on my bucket list to try and attempt to fit some aftermarket GT3 seats (996 or 997) to my autocross car as they appear to be very similar in height and shape to 914 seats just with a lot more bolster. I doubt that will affect comfort much though.

I think with a 914 though the problem of comfort extends beyond just the seats, they are not a touring car they are go carts. Allow me to propose another solution, use this as an opportunity to buy another Porsche and get a 924 or early 944 in addition to your 914 then whenever you have the wife just take that. A few years ago I picked up a 924 turbo as a project and im totally blown away by how comfortable the early transaxle cars are, even better if you get one with A/C. Somehow even more comfortable than my 86 951. Dirt cheap, comfortable, and still fun without messing up the feel of your 914.

I just saw this post and saw the pics of your car, beautiful. Is it a'73? I have a '73 that I bought in 1984 and I had it painted in the original ivory all ivory. Would love to see a picture of the whole car if possible. Also, I noticed two different firewall coverings, one with the stock vynl and the other done in carpet. i liked the carpet look.

Email me if possible, my info is in the profiles.

Thanks,
Mark Kaiser
