914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Getting those irritating tweaks done

Posted by: Halfnelson Nov 21 2017, 07:15 AM

Been ticking off all those little irritating things one at a time. So far:

Western Wheels replaced by Gasburners and ride height raised to useable level.

Full Ankorwax of body, underside and cavities.

Replace hideous non standard chunky black plastic aerial.

Rubber bumper 'tits' removed and bumpers resprayed.

Ignition / seatbelt cutout rewired.

Horrid Porsche shiny silver sun visor removed.

Period number plates fitted.

Still to do - wing mirrors!

Cheers, Chris

Thanks - yes the wing mirrors aren't great so I'll be looking for some stock replacements. Any advice and best source appreciated.

Looking good.

The bumperettes only allowed the car to pass manufacturer crash test damage. Not needed 40+ years later.

The car looks great!!

+3 on those terrible mirrors. Maybe lower the rear to make it level?

Tell us about your cleaner/wax technique?

Leave the rear up, the cars run faster downhill!

Thanks for all the kind words. 914world seems to be a rad forum and supportive. Still feels like there's a decent list of things to work through but the big stuff seems OK. Mainly rubber seals etc.

The stance is pretty much parallel - little lower than stock. The car runs lower profile tyres on the front, hence slightly nose down. Much better now than it was though.

My friend has a garage that specialises in air-cooled classic and he did the wax injection and under-sealing on one of his ramps. It's a product called Ankor Wax - think it may be just a UK brand? Warm it up, stays clear so doesn't coat everything in a black tar gunk. All box sections, cills, doors, etc done. He was impressed after having a good poke around, the US climate has certainly looked after it smile.gif

Cheers

Chris
