Every once in a while, the fuel pump does not hum when I turn the ignition. So, I get out, open the engine lid and bang on the metal box on the relay board with my bottle opener attached to my keys. Then, I get back in the car and turn the key. This has fixed the problem every time. Sometimes, more banging is required. Once, the fuel pump shut off while driving and the car stalled, same "fix" worked.
I have no problem asking stupid questions (just see some earlier posts).
What is the thing I'm banging on? Why does this work? Where can I get a replacement?
BTW - OC rocks
relay could be going out (buy a new one or replace with a known good one....)
connections could be getting dirty (clean them), Pin 13 goes to the fuel pump.

Or the mayor.
Take the rear relay, and swap it with the center relay. That help?
If it did, you have a bad relay. If it didn't, you either have two somewhat bad relays, or you have a continuity problem, likely at the box.
