i was bored today, so i went and grabbed one of the 9" x 16 Ronal wheels and polished it and blacked out the center ...

i think i like it better than just plain chrome. we'll see once i get some tires on there ...

Looks really nice Andy.

Ha, that is exactly what I planned on doing with my Ronals. The only problem is that I need to strip the crappy silver paint off mine first then I can polish and paint them.

Hurry up and put those on your car so I can see how it looks biggrin.gif

Andy,

What about red centers to match the car? cool.gif

Posted by: McMark May 30 2005, 11:44 PM

Very nice! Throw some red pinstriping on the spokes and clear coat them. wink.gif Much better than all polished, IMHO.

Why not silver? Or grey? Heck you could have even put a flake in it...

Still.. Black looks good. Dates the car though.... Tis why I never liked cookies with black centers...

How did you prep the chrome surface for paint? I've always wondered how to do that. I've got these door handles......

i got some steel wool pads in different mesh-sizes ...

started with cleaning the area with brake cleaner, which worked great. even roughed up the surface a bit. then started with the larger wool pads, doing swirls, then the finer grain ...

then painted it with enamel industrial strenght hi-temp paint. the paint looks great and time will tell how it's holding up ...
