Since a rod started knocking (I think) in Punkins 2.0 I figured I might as well put in this 1.7 I've had laying on the floor for the last 2 years Been robbing parts off it for awhile too but it supposedly ran good when it was taken out of the car that was converted to a 6.
Anyway, at one point I needed a CHT so I tried to take it out of this 1.7 but it broke off flush.
Before I wanted to install it into Punkin I figured I'd better see if I could get out what was left.
I began with a small EZ out but it wouldn't budge. Even soaking it with PB Blaster for a week. I went to a large drill bit hoping it might heat up and I could coax it out but NOOO! Then I found a Heli Coil kit in the drawer, bit & threader (21/64's and an M8 x 1.25 thread bit) so I began drilling carefully. Got the threader in & had some nice threads. Tried the CHT but it was a hair big. I found an exhaust stud that fit the heli Coil threads & threaded it into the hole. This is where I got lucky... The rest of the old CHT began coming out past the stud while I was screwing it in
Since this happened I figure it's a good sign that the engine will run long enough for me to either find another 2.0 or have the old one rebuilt
I'm H A P P Y ... My weekend was G U D

Way to stay positive Bwooth! I've about had it with my 914, so if something like this happens to me, I just might throw in the towel
Hey Chris, Good to see ya 'round
Ya, I know where yer coming from. I threw in the towel many times but came back (a few weeks later)!
If someone would'a bought the Punkin when it was for sale I'd have a Miata about now (oops, should'nt have said that, eh? flame comin' on soon)
I just hope this engine will run ok
