914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Cleaning, re-taping harness

Posted by: rgalla9146 Feb 8 2018, 10:23 PM

Tried search but no luck.......or no skill.
Recently there was a thread that illustrated a successful method (with pictures !) of cleaning and re-taping a chassis harness.
Perhaps a link ?
TIA
Rory

I doubt this is what you were thinking of, but I posted some pics and description of cleaning and taping mine in my build thread: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?s=&showtopic=307290&view=findpost&p=2552849

http://www.tangerineracing.com/otherproducts.htm has it, again I have proven I memorized Chris's site.Bottom right of this page scroll al the way down. You can also get wider stuff on Amazon and run it through a saw if need be. The last part can be tricky.

Thanks. I'm glad that info is useful. I need to update it and have been thinking about writing it up as a stand alone how-to since I haven't seen one.

I got both the https://www.ebay.com/itm/Tesa-Cloth-Tape-51608-Genuine-Made-In-Germany-9mm-X-25m-Vintage-Honda-CB/162675509138?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 and https://www.ebay.com/itm/PVC-Black-Insulated-Premium-Grade-Electrical-Tape-1-2-x-66-Ft-length-8-Mils/252353132244?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 tape on ebay (follow those links), but, like Stephen said, Tangerine has the cloth. 914rubber carries it too.

I've gotten the terminals at digikey.com for dirt cheap. Here are part numbers:

I haven't been able to find exact match ring terminals for grounds and batter terminals on digikey. I'm guessing they are in there, I just can't find them. I think I've sourced them from this http://www.cycleterminal.com/ring-terminals.html, but haven't had them in hand to see yet. They also have most (if not all) of the AMP/FASTON spade terminals so might be a good one stop shop compared to digikey. Prices look good too.

Good luck! beerchug.gif

As well as the rubber for the metal hold down tabs. In the associated items if you need some.
