914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Torsion Bar Stuck!

My father managed to get the passenger side torsion bar almost all the way in, except the only problem is, its jammed now! We cant pull it out or push it in and were trying not to strip the splines. Anyhow can somebody save the day by telling me how to fix the error, also is there a cap that comes off the front of the A-Frame?

Pull it back out, what did you use a hammer to slide it in?? You should be able to push it in with your hands.

lol yep he used a hammer. tried pulling it back out, it took him and i to pry and tap at the same time and it still wont come out

you mean remove the A-frame and then try and get it out?

If it's still on the car it'll be a challenge. Here's what I did to get a stuck t-bar out with the a-arm off the car:
Drill a hole in the cap at the end of the a-arm.
Heat the a-arm with a torch right at the end where the spline is.
Insert a punch into the hole you drilled and bang away - it'll come out.
Seal the hole with RTV at reassembly.

no, can you move the arm up and down and try again?

it sounds like its pinching somewhere...maybe if it moves a bit it will get free...or get worse

Loosen the two 19 mm bolts that hold the cross member in. This will allow the torsion bars more room to slide in and not hit the bottom of the tub. You will have to pry the crossmember down slightly to gain the room you need. When done.. tighten the bolts back up.

I'm pretty sure your torsion bars are hitting the tub as you try and slide them in... also be aware that 911 and 914 torsion bars have a different spline count and the 911's will NOT work in a 914 control arm.
