FWIW, I have the original engine for that car.
Wow! Small world. I don't know what happened to it after I saw it. I was looking for something less modified at the time- but it was a killer car.
I used to drool over his car every time I saw it at an event, nice guy as well.
No idea who bought it when it was for sale, I think when he still owned it he was trying to get $45K for it?
Chopped roll bar and raked windshield? Or is it just the camera lens? Proportions look odd. Nice car, but I’m not a fan of the windshield/Roll bar mods.
Had Excellence article on the build way back when, great car,how come the engine was separated from the car or are you talking about the 2.5 originally in it when Ernie bought it Perry ? do you know.
This car set a high standard for builds. One which has not been bested by very many. I remember seeing it and thinking, you just can't get much better.
While researching mufflers for my 914 I found this picture of Ernie and his car on a website that makes custom mufflers and exhausts.

Yup - that's Ernie- great guy.
That car was also an inspiration for my car. Loved that car. Why did he get rid of it?
This is from the 1998 Monterey Historics.

Pretty sure his car was the original inspiration for mine--early pic of (I think) his car and mine at Patrick Motorsports, date unknown:
That certainly appears to be Ernie's car in the background. Two outstanding examples of the 914.
