I found this in the Samba classified and since it was in Florida I desided to buy it.
This is what happens to a 'teener when you leave it sitting in the back yard in South Florida for a few years. The first picture was with the ad on Samba. So it has 916 bumpers and a good windshield.
28 year old German sheetmetal + semi-tropic climate=RUST

This is the second pic that was with the ad.
So it has a rear 916 bumper and a really cool l/plate, good lenses and the filler lense.

The interior shot showed a cool s/w and a console, From these items alone I figure I could get my money out of it.

So I headed out to West Palm Beach and found the car had been pulled out into the front yard. All four tires were flat. Luckly I have an electric winch on my trailer. Pulled it up and loaded the loose parts in my truck.
BTW, one of the loose pieces was the engine, a 1.7.

I drove by Gunnar's and chatted with my new best bud Kevin.

Once I got it home I really started looking at it.
It is ROUGH!!!

Is the rear bumper fiberglass? If so, let me know if you want to get rid of it.
Are you parting it? I have needs, hook a brother up man. C'mon, I need a fix
And what about this sweet steering wheel. It dosen't say MOMO on it but it does say "Made in Italy" It is in very good shape and with the hub of course.

And you can also see a nice relay board cover in the above pic.
Is that a dash cap, or a nice dash. Good score.
"signal orange" !
so, are you going to save it? or give it the "light" treatment?
Andy
That was all the good stuff and I will be parting it out so hang in there.
Whata see the bad stuff? It won't take many sawzall blades to cut this up.
Let start with just behind the right front tire. That s BIG hole.

Same area on the left side. That's a 12" screwdriver.
Attached thumbnail(s)
I hate when I see these eyebrows glassed over.
Attached thumbnail(s)
But I saved the best shot for last.
Do you think this is a problem.....
Attached thumbnail(s)
I for got the box-o-parts shot.
Those brake shoes are for the very rare drum brake 914's that were built just before the grasshoppers.

holy sh*t. I really like the last pic

Do you think there is anything on that engine besides the heads and case worth saving?
All the FI system is shot. Is the sheetmetal worth saving?
Tranny is a tail shifter but I'll keep it.
Rear shocks are orange but don't have Koni stickers.
I'm already getting PM'd for parts.
Paul
My steering wheel is covered in duct tape.
Help a brother out.
Oops... I meant to say...
That steering wheel looks way heavy but would look good in my Buick. Yeah. That's it.
..
Jeez. I need to take pictures of my $100 Montana 914. I have less rust but I didn't get an engine with it.

Paul, That s/w by looking at the 6 screw holddown arrangement is either a Nardi,or a Personal wheel. Both were in fact made by Nardi. What that means, is that the adaptor hub behind it is a real goodie to have because,it it ultra rare. and I think no longer made.A real good piece to have. The one on my six took some time to find and when I did,it came to me as an old item never sold by a retailer. |
What I liked was the brake shoes... What the hell are those off of? Did you get any antifreeze to go with it too or an extra radiator, or water pump?
how much for the junk motor, i wanna make a coffie table!
In the photo of the dash showing the wheel still installed it looks to have a ultra rare 914world.com aluminum pedal board could that be?????

I forgot a few more facts.
Good things:
The front A-arms have tabs for the sway bar mounts.
The front trunk floor looks good from the inside.
Bad things:
There was a mouse in the front trunk up by the gas tank.
The rear trunk has the carpet still in it. There was grass or something sprouting out of it.
PM me if you see anything you my want. (Sorry, the mouse ran off)
Paul
recycle to help keep another 914 on the road
