914World.com _ 914World Garage _ solid or hydraulic lifters

Posted by: Rogersrest Apr 21 2018, 09:02 AM

I just got a 1976 -4 cylinder it has a couple of valves that are loud . I adjusted them the same as my 72 VW bus at 6 . now it wont run it pops and wont start. I was reading the forum and I think I might have hydraulic lifters. would I set them in the same way as the bus or is there another procedure that I should use. rogersrest

First, you should confirm if the lifters are hydraulic by removing at least one. You can also do a down and dirty test by pulling back on the rocker to apply force on the pushrod. If it feels springy, you probably have hydraulic lifters.

If they ARE hydraulic, set to zero lash and then tighten 1/2 turn more.
