From what I understood the 5 speed Boxster trans, the axles were two different lengths. At the start he said the axles fit, I thought something didn't seem right, but now that we finally got to doing the wheel alignment, I was correct in that the passenger side is too short. He said about 1/2".
Does anyone know what the correct length of axle would be on the passenger side using the 5 speed Boxster trans, and if so, where I can acquire one at?
Renegrade in Las Vegas does these with V8s call them and ask.

Are you using the boxster trans on the 914? Sorry I think I miss read your post first time. Mike bellis had a 5 speed boxster/Passat unit in the car before he put the 6 speed. Check his build thread for measurements.
I have one in my car but I removed the trans mounts and moved them as they are offset in a 914 and it was also in the way of the shifter assembly. I have equal length axles and use an off the shelf vw Bus axle like rennegade hybrid uses on their 500hp axle solution.
Is anyone else using the 5 speed boxster trans with the LS3 engine that could advise me on the axle lengths?
I have a boxster 5 speed in one of my cars and as far as i recall the reason for the different lengths was because of an offset in the trans and has nothing to do with the type of engine. my rear suspension is not 914 so i have no idea if the boxster axels and trans would work with the 914 suspension or as others have mentioned you might need custom axels or spacers.

I think the consensus is you better get the 6 speed Lyle. I would try to get with Mike Bellis to make sure you get the right stuff. He's got it down pat

My setup is totally custom. I run 930CV's with both my 6 and 5 speed. My 5 speed has custom 108mm stubs. I use the same axles on both with the addition of a 7/16 CV spacer that doubles at the magnetic speedo pickup.
I purchased multiple axle lengths until I found the sweet spot.
I run non-plunging CV's. This requires me to run sliding axles. (normal CV are plunging with fixed axles).
I fine tuned my setup to work with either tranny.
I spoke to Lyle and I'm not convinced that his mechanic have the skills to complete this build. I base this on some of the basic component setup confusion on his part.
If there is an "easy" way... Make your build use the same size CV for both the inner and outer. Then buy the correct length axles. They will be about 3/4"-1" different in length.
Remove the rear wheel and disconnect the shock. This will allow you to easily raise and lower the suspension until you find the closest distance between the tranny and wheel hub. Take this shortest measurement and subtract 1/2" this is your maximum axle length. Then buy axles with a spline count that matches your CV's.
If you have 100mm CV's, you spline count most likely is 33. If you run 108mm CV's you spline count is 28. If both CV's match, axles can be purchased off the shelf. If you need 33 on one side and 28 on the other, this requires a custom machined axle.
If you have a 5 speed, this is 100mm. If you have a 6 speed, this is 108mm.
If you do 6 speed, it will have 108mm stubs. You can buy 108mm wheel stubs from an early 911 and run 930 CV's. This would be the easiest way to complete the axle build. The cost is a 6 speed tranny.
