How much would you expect to pay for an original 914-6 engine that is in need of a rebuild? I have the engine serial number code... where can one verify that it's an actual original 6 from a 914?
Unless the car is a real /6 and to many a numbers matching engine it's just a 110hp '69 911T engine.
Rebuild cost is basically the same for a 2.0 thru 3.2
Aluminum case is the reason many conversion owners go for the 3.0 and up engines.

Please post the engine serial number. You never know, it may have been an engine out of a car someone here owns and is looking for their original motor.

Price - depends on condition and completeness. Completeness includes things like carbs, exhaust, sheet metal, shroud, alternator, carb linkages etc. A decent core long block might be had for as low as $1500 with a decent complete core motor going for maybe as much as $5000.00
Things like Weber carbs go for $2500 - $3500 alone.

VIN for this engine should be around 914.043.2500 (+/- 50)

Yes not worth a lot but generally these motors don't suffer like the later mag case 2.7 for example ,will run for a fair while before they just wear out ,sad thing is the body has turned to dust and been scrapped long before.
Would be interesting to know how many real six's are around now...can't be many left from a small production run,makes sense good conversions are moving up in value.

901/38 was a 70-72 USA-emissions 914/6 engine (per Bruce Anderson's performance book)
- not an alu case (those are worth MUCH cuz you can secretly build 'em into durable stealth big motors and get past the scrutineers at vintage race venues that monitor such stuff)

i sold a decent rebuildable 901/38 long block for $500 a few yrs ago
- not worth rebuilding one imho -
- dunno why anyone would really want a oem 2.0 with non-counterweighted crank & gasketed cyl heads, unless one is obsessed with number matching for auction value, and does not care much about performance
I bought a core 914-6 long block from a member here
a few years ago for 3500.00.
It turns over freely and has 2.0 āSā pistons and cylinders
and Solex Cams.. Needs a rebuild though. It might just end
up in my 6 as a driver.
My original engine is sitting on a shelf with 30,000 miles on it.
A small engine will go into my car without issue and not run too hot.
