914World.com _ 914World Garage _ SS Heat Exchanger question

Posted by: mojorisen914 May 19 2018, 10:20 AM

Hi kids! Can anyone tell me anything about why a pair of heat exchangers would be different lengths? If I match the pair together; one is 1 3/4” linger than the other. Aren’t they both supposed to be the same length? What could be some reasons they aren’t? Different year firmest?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

they’ll be different due to the arrangement of the cylinders of the boxer engine.

It will work out when you install them.

So, is correct to say they are supposed to be that way or are they mis-matched?

Ok. So, even with the different lengths, they should fit perfectly fine?

Gaze at the cyl offset. One bank is further forward. About an inch and three quarters.

Yes they are correct, the driver side cylinders are farther forward in the car.
When installed the outlet flanges will be even with each other so the exhaust hanger and a muffler can bolt on.

They look to be 2.0L HEs, so you will need a 2.0L muffler and bracket.

Your cylinders aren't exactly opposite each other. If they were, they would have to share a rod on the crank, which obviously is impossible.

Thanks everyone!!! It all makes sense to me now.
Thanks for everyone’s help!!! There’s a long story behind these but in short; I don’t need them. I’m going to put them up for sale in the Classifieds forum.
