East coast party and 914 parts sell-off. August 4th.
In 2015, we lost a good friend and 914 enthusiast, Jim McLeod. Jim had amassed a very large collection of 914 parts, a couple 914’s and a 914-6 conversion project. Most of these parts are in great shape, sorted, and ready to use. Barbara, Jim’s wife, would like these cars and parts to go out to Jim’s friends and all the 914 enthusiasts that shared his passion for these cars.
We are having a party and parts sale on August 4th. We intend to sell all the parts and would also like to sell the orange auto- x car and the white 914-6 conversion project. Think of the party as a big 914 swap meet with free food and all the parts priced to sell. Everyone is welcome, families, friends, and enthusiasts. We will be pricing parts to sell and will be negotiable on everything. You are welcome to come in your 914 but I’d suggest showing up in a car or truck that can hold a good size parts purchase. Example: we have 2.0 heat exchangers, 2 rebuilt transmissions, engine cases, p&c’s, mufflers, headers, wheels, upholstery, boxes and boxes of new parts still in their packages, bins of small hardware and unique parts and tons of used and refurbished parts. I’m including some pictures that show a fraction of the parts available.
This will be a great way to pick up parts for your project, spare parts for your car or get the second 914 that you know you want. We will have free matchbox hot wheels cars for the kids and free giveaways, good friends, food and the chance to talk 914’s with fellow enthusiasts.
Location - Glen Ave SW, Vienna, VA 22180 - plenty of parking is available.
Please call or email me with any questions. RSVP is not needed but if you can come, please post on this thread so we keep it bumped to the top. Thank you, Mark Epstein 302,540.9242, Mark@MarkEpstein.net
*I am not charging a fee. 100% of the proceeds go to Barbara.

I need an excuse to attend.
How can I ship parts back SoCal???
Oscar
GLWS, Jim was a good man. Hopefully you'll get Top Dollar! Were all those items shipped to the east coast to sale? Seems an added expense, if so. Will this be locals only or an online auction that runs concurrently?
Sounds like a cool day!
I'm planning on being there, Mark.
The six engine in that one pic Jim bought from Tangerine just around the time of his heart surgery. My son and I helped him move it across his yard and into his garage so he could work on it in there, just before he passed .
I will try to make this. Please let me know what I can do to help out.
WOW! What a collection! That CIS setup is pretty darn interesting. Should be a fun event.
Mark, that is awesome to help out Jim’s wife.
I miss Jim a bunch. Count me in. If you need anything brought down
please let me know.
Going to try and be there. Maybe even driving my own 914.
Does Barbara still have the Vanagon?
Zach
Going to try and be there. Maybe even driving my own 914. Yes, please come.
Does Barbara still have the Vanagon? Yes
Zach
I’ll make sure I can be there. First 914 I looked at, with my dad, to buy was one of Jim’s...passed on the car but remained friends. He was always willing to lend a tool and BS.
Yeah. Jim was a great guy. Back when I was event planning more he was always the first guy who offered to help. We would share spots at swap meets. He and Ken both would drive over to my place and help out.
When Ken died I tried to buy up as much of his stuff as I could to keep it in the family. I hope we can do the same with Jim’s stuff.
Planning on attending. Don’t have a need for parts but can lend a hand. Mark, give me a call if you need anything from me.
8 hrs away, but added it to my calendar. Mark, this really hits hard as I know if something happened to me, my wife would be in the same boat.
So thank you for doing this for her
Now to save a wade of cash to bring and make the sale. Also may want to setup a PP Acount for the sale, yes the fees can become a pain, but in this situation, an up-charge to cover the fees would be appropriate. http://thefeecalculator.coms I use all the time, to make sure the seller does not pay for the my choice of transaction, and I still get the protection on the sale. Not that I have ever had issues buying things on the site. Some of my other interests can become a bit lets say not as honorable of a transaction.
That's the same weekend as the big DE for the local PCA chapter. Any chance the sale could be moved to the weekend before or after? If not, any chance of doing a pre-sale sale the weekend before?
I'm at that DE as well... if it moves to an alternate day, I'd be in for sure.
-bob
Wish I could attend as i'd like to support the cause, but planed to be out of town that weekend.
If there is another day, or follow up, I'd be happy to help.
Eric
Got it on the calendar.........did you say rebuilt tranny? Hope all is well Mark and very nice of you to do this.
I've added this to my calendar and will attend if it doesn't conflict with my upcoming hip replacement surgery or recovery. I drive through Vienna quite often on my way to Katie's cars and coffee on Saturday morning.
Ill do my best to be there. Jim was good people and we hang out at many events since my arrival back East in 2005. His passing hit hard. Anyone commuting from OH, we could maybe carpool or caravan. I don't need any parts, but girlfriend has a big truck. I can help ship parts if anyone comes out and needs help with that. This is good karma.
Mark-
I am seriously considering going. Trying to decide, alone, w wifey or another socal teener.
Question..don't plan on carrying much cash, will PayPal be accepted?
Oscar
2 things:
I’d like to get a preliminary head count of people attending to estimate food, drink, ect.
Please reply to this thread. Thanks!
2nd:
I have no plans to turn this into a swap meet but if people have large 914 parts that are traditionally difficult or expensive to ship - seats, glass, targa tops, hoods, ect. We can start a different FS party thread and then swap the pre sold parts at the party. Let me know. Thanks again.
Mark - I plan to be there. I still haven't made it up to your shop, can you bring those late door windows down when you come, thanks!
Will definitely be there Mark.
Count me in Mark.
Seriously considering, looking at logistics.
Thanks for doing this Mark!
Mark-
I'm IN...got the GREEN light
Wife and I will fly into NY and visit friends prior to heading your way.
Can't wait...
Can I bring anything other than my drug of choice (diet pepsi)?
Let me know,
Oscar
Cleaning up tonight, I found this hand written post-it note from Jim.
I was having FI issues and suspected the ECU. About a week before he passed away, Jim dropped an ECU off at Matt's in Frederick so I could test my ECU theory.
I just "laminated" the post-it with packing tape and it will ride in my glove box from now on.
That’s very cool Bob. Nice momento of Jim.
Mark, can you briefly describe what's available? Any 1.8L stuff?
local and not DE'ing.. seems like not going would be a crime!
Flight, hotel & car rental booked and confirmed!
We will be in DC area the entire weekend...why not
Preparing my 914 parts wish list.
Any other West Coast attendees?
Oscar
Epoxy sealed my gas tank over the weekend. Put it back together outside the car last night. Need to re-run fuel lines under the tank tonight and put the tank back in. On track for being able to drive the 914 to jim's!
Zach
Was looking through my phone photos last night (looking for photos I missed that had my dad in them) and found some I saved of Jim.
Also re-linking Jim Kelly's video of the CIS 2.0....I think my dad took a video on his phone, but I haven't looked at his phone in a long time (but it is nice to hear his 'woooo' in the background)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-owfyoayUg
I'll be in the new-to-me family truckster in case I find some parts and can load em up.

So, A BIG Thank you to Adam from Unobtanium. Adam made a very generous (unsolicited & appreciated) donation to the party. With it, I'll be purchasing a big tray of pulled pork, baked beans, mac & cheese and potato salad from my favorite little BBQ joint to bring down to the party. We will supplement it with hot dogs, chips, soda ect. If you have something nutritious you'd like to bring, feel free to share.
Adam also sent down a box of giveaways for attendees. So again, a big THANK YOU! Adam - Unobtanium.
Nice one Adam. Thank you.
I can't wait. It will be fun hanging with East Coast group.
I'll come to party alone as wife plans to stay in DC to do some shopping.
Bringing a cooler w soft drinks!!!
Oscar
Thanks for posting those pictures! Its a total shame that engine never made into into his car. (I think - did it?)
When Jim and rod powder coated all the orange bits, Jim did a bunch more then he needed of injector clamps. I needed some, so at that party he gave me 4 of his spares. So I have some "Jim Orange" color in my engine bay - if you look.
Zach
THANK YOU ALL! This is Jim's wife Barbara. It will be nice to meet many of you on August 4th. Mark has been great helping me to figure out what to do with Jim's TREASURES!
Tomorrow he will be gone 3 years. Hard to imagine!
How he loved his 914's. When we were in High School he dreamed of having a 911. One of the guys in his band got a new one for his 16th birthday... if you can imagine! Anyway, Jim coveted one from that time on. After totaling a 944 he got a settlement that allowed him to buy his 911SC. That car was NOT his favorite!?! He preferred the 914's since he could work on them. He built that garage for his babies and would have tried to get more cars if he had an even bigger garage!! AND... he spent MOST of his spare time either working at Home Depot to get money for the cars or out in the garage working on the cars or on this forum talking about cars. Needless to say I was a bit jealous.
He was out in the garage the day he passed. How he longed to clean up that 6 and put it in the Orange 914.
I've waited all this time not being able to think about parting with the things he loved. There are so many parts that it gives me anxiety to go into the garage and storage room.
I know that he would be happy knowing some of you will put the parts to use.
Looking forward to meeting you and hoping to find a home for much of the Porsche parts.
We will just have this event that one day but I am happy to have those of you who can't attend come by sometime to see if he has anything you need. I'm not going anywhere for now. Thanks, Barbara
Get that thing running! Then you can see your hard work first hand (knob).
Zach/Bob,
I'll caravan with you guys. Not sure which way you'll be coming down, but I can meet you in route.
I'm still very new to this forum and I did not know this gentleman; however, it seems as though he's someone I would've appreciated knowing. I'll be attending as well if not just to talk to other 914 owners and possible find something for my 71.
Zach, just plug off the AAR port and don't use it.
I don't need any with mine...its not cold enough right now. Save it for later!
Mark
What time are you starting on the 4th?
I need to estimate drive time from DC.
Oscar
I can follow you guys with the support wagon if you go down 29 from I70
rear brake calipers bound up, brake fade....
Hi Matt
Looking forward to coming down and meeting some of those that have given me great advice with getting none in return.
What time is the earliest we can show up without causing a problem?
Please let me know if I can bring food or drink.
Easy to do.
Thanks again.
George

duh
I meant Mark
Can you repost the address?
Greetings from SoCal.
See ya there next Saturday
Oscar
Oscar gets around.......!!
10AM
Glen Ave SW
Vienna VA 22180
The house will be obvious. Just don't want to post Barbara's house number on the internet. Parking very nearby at an office building that is closed on Weekends. Family friendly event. Lunch will be served. Thanks!
Still hope in the air that I will be in my 914.
Still need insurance and to get the AAR in. The AAR kit from Mark just arrived and I’m hopeful to get it in and tuned for the party.
A big thank you to Adam at Unobtanium for supporting this event. His open house is coming soon.

Well, getting the car running for the event is moot. I’ll be bringing both boys and driving the WRX. Only 2 seats in the teener and I’ve to three butts that need seats.
I’ll bring a couple 10x10 pop ups too.
Zach
So, a wrinkle has developed.
I just learned of an estate sale near me in PA on Saturday that is selling 2 BMW 2002 shells and a bunch of parts. I need doors for my car. I've called the auctioneer and he says there are doors there, but he does not know what condition they are in and won't until Friday when they are layed out. So, I'll call back Friday, and he is going to get pictures for me.
If the doors are worth getting, I'm going to go north instead of south to get them. Hard to pass up a set of doors at estate sale prices.
I'll see if I can get someone to grab my 10x10 pop-ups if I can't show.
Zach
Zach,
I have 2 10x10 popups I can bring down. Bob and I are going to follow each other down.
On my way...stuck in Atlanta due to severe weather over Richmond VA.
Not to worry...I just noticed a co passenger here at the terminal that looked familiar.
Turns out he is Commander Scott Kelly retired astronaut who piloted space shuttle Discovery...COOL
I thanked him for his service.
Oscar
Bumperoo!
We may not even get rain tomorrow! First time in how many daysin the mid-Atlantic???
Who's a definite for showing up? We'll see how many local P-car guys show up. Jim was pretty active locally, and he's not forgotten.
Mark
Oscar
Me
Nathan?
....?
right now I am planning on it.
It’s rain or shine. We are prepared for both and I’ve picked up the food. See everyone tomorrow.
I got a 15-pack of good beer to go with the food being provided
Mmmmm, beer.
Bummed I can't make it. I'm sure it'll be a great day for a great cause. Have fun. And if anyone eyes a nice painted rear bumper for my '74....
Bob and I will be there.

Good time for a good cause today! Thanks for pulling this together, Mark. I know it meant a lot to Barbara and the McLeod family.
Good to see everyone -- I'd mention everyone I can remember -- but then I'd forget somone. Special to Oscar, however, for making the trip. Really good to meet you, and don't worry, I won't tell Larmo or Elliott what you said about them!
Still a lot of parts available. Man, Jim knew how to collect stuff.
What an amazing collection of parts! Thanks to Mark for organizing this event for Barbara. I'm happy to report my car is running again thanks to Jim. It was nice to meet everyone today.
Fantastic day...great meeting up with East Coast guys. Special thanks to Barbara and Mark for allowing us in.
Great stuff...Bruce Stone and I scored. Although It cost me to send my wife shopping all day.
Jim...RIP
Guess who?...some escaped prior to taking picture.
Oscar
All those gauges
Had a blast today. Fun gathering and great to see old & new
friends. I hope Jim is pleased with us. Thank you Barbara for having us.
Thanks buddy we miss ya.

Gratitude goes out to Barbara, The Mcleod family and Mark for setting this event up.
It was a great day of buying parts, talking cars with 914 world members and the Mcleod family, awesome food and just hanging out. The sun even came out for a change!
It was a pleasure meeting Oscar from the west coast as well.
Jim - your parts collection will help keep other 914's on the road - thank you.
What a great time!
Great meeting people face to face when you only communicate via this forum!
While I didn't know Jim, I heard he was a really great guy. Barbara was super sweet to hosting this party.
Props:
To Jim and his love and collection of these cars - RIP
Barbara and her family
Mark for setting it all up
West coast Oscar - finally getting to meet the guy I almost bought my first 914 from
Adam from Unobtanium for sending the care package which provided delicious food
The one 911 dude - sorry forget your name - changing the oil on Jim/Barbs 83 911 sc and getting it running good in the grass during the meet
Everyone that showed up - all nice guys
My s10 for getting my treasure home
It killed me that I wasn't able to travel for 45 minutes and meet everyone. I'm recovering from hip surgery on the 23rd and just couldn't do it.
Thank you to everybody be who came to the party.
Thank you to everyone who helped at the party.
Thank you to Adam at Unobtanium for a big contribution that everyone enjoyed.
Thank you to Barbra for her hospitality and sharing Jim with all of us.
Just wow. Stopped by for a bit.. Wasn't looking for anything much but wow.. if Jim had 1 of something, he had a dozen of them. Amazing number of parts/cars etc in that garage. I thought myself somewhat 914 knowledgeable, but when faced, even with labeled boxes/parts/drawers I wondered what some of the items were. No wonder his his family are overwhelmed.
Met some nice folks.. talked 914s and other stuff.. Not sure if there is an ability to do this again... in the back of my mind, it takes someone with a lot of time and patience to go through it all, figure whats working/fixable/broken etc to help keep other 914s on the road.
To the two fella's who seemed to spearhead the effort, thank you.
Did she sell everything?
Hey Mark......Big props.
Again, thanks to all I met up with.
Used Fedex to ship items back home. Thanks to Bruce who guided me through this process.
I hope to recipricate warm welcome when you guys come to SoCal.
I promise
Oscar
All boxes arrived
FYI...$190 coast to coast (Fedex), not bad. Thanks Bruce.
Don't be shy, dinner on me when you guys come out to SoCal.
We don't bite
All of you were true gentlemen.
Oscar
