we have this being duplicated now and wonder how much interest there is. Molding is quite expensive on this part so we would have to sell for 35 bucks but it would be an exact zinc plate duplicate

Any interest?

That said, we like to use them on our GT style builds "a lot" and, I'm not seeing ton's of them via the usual "used market" suspects. M9x1 thread pitch?

They were at forged part. That's one of the reasons why we didn't make them. It would be great if George could get these done they are needed. But it is a forged part.

Keep your 914 in check and drive it often and you'll never need a tow hook. Just remember kids, trailers are for boats!

Mine broke-off too and I've been unable to get the remnant out of the car. Not a great design even as a forged part IMO, if you're actually gonna use it (i.e., track car).

The issue is the threaded bolt is way too small. Look at a 996 928 tow hook and it's way more substantial RD20mm knuckle thread that is basically a metric version of an Acme thread.

To me it's nice to have in your original kit, but as a tow hook it's pretty well worthless.

The thing is for originality the stock hook is as good as it gets.
Better would be custom.

Thanks, I will try that! I have tried an easy-out type of thing to no avail. Obviously the forged steel is extremely hard, and it's been screwed in there really tight for several years now. Possibly in there for good at this point.

Is it flush with the end? You could weld a nut on the broken fastener then remove easily.

Soak it with penetrating oil and let sit for an hour or so to let it weep into the areas it can. Use a smaller bit to make a pilot hole and go to town with the largest bit you feel comfortable with (as not to damage the threads).
