914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 1975 914-4... is it worth $$$?

Posted by: bwaz Jun 13 2005, 05:43 PM

Hi there, new to the 914 as my neighbour has one sitting in his backyard and is wanting to sell it. It's a 1974 4-cyl (1.8 or 2 litre?) has had some rust work done on the pans but has been sitting for nearly 10 years. Has Fuchs and supposedly a 911 suspension mod done to it. Some rust underneath and on surface of body, interior in pieces, rolls but don't want to try and start it! What's it worth?
$500, $1000 or $5000? thanks for your help!

from your description, $500 max.....detailed pictures would be best, but chances are the car has suffered too many years of neglect.....

It's not a '74. Might be a 2.0. If it were a 2.0!.... ohmy.gif
you could get $400 for the engine and $400 for the wheels!!Easy! Confirm?

That's how mine looked when I went to look at it for the first time.(stuffed in an old barn/garage) I spent a whole day cleaning out the mouse crap.

75 or 76 bumpers on it...... when you get it dug out take pics of the "hell hole" and the suspension mounts/longs

If you can read the serial number you can tell what yr it is

Hi again, thanks for all the help. I'm fairly new to 914's, so exactly where is the "hell hole" and the suspension mounts/longs? Shock towers? thanks again, i'll check for the 3 bolts to see if it's a 2.0

Open the engine lid, and look down the passenger side, under the battery tray, all the way in that pass side low corner.

Poke with a screwdriver.

The longs are the Longitudinals. look behind the rocker panels and around the jack points. Do a search in the fourm for hell hole and rust repair before you buy anything. 914's can look good from the outside, but be rust buckets under the surface. Here is a photo of a Longitudinal. the driver side is usually not as bad as the passenger side. As far as the suspension mounts go, just check all around the rear suspension for any signs of rust. Also, look under the carpet and behind the seats. It's best to take your time and give the car a really good look.
