Luckily I have a brand new flex joint, I just don't want break it again.

You can always replace it with a steering U-Joint. Easy to uncouple, and never requires new bushings.

Plus, what you need is probably already in your parts stash.

When driving out the pin, it is important that you don't drive against the aluminum. You must support the square part of the shift rod. Do not lay horizontal on the aluminum coupling. The pin is press fitted in the steel so this is where support must placed
