I was on the factory website, and came across a section for club support from the factory. I used my dealship email, and sent them a message. this is what I got back, and I didn't know if we as a club were interested or not. I never said I was anything more than a memeber, and I don't want ot step on any toes here, so I thought I would pass it on to whomever. The factory seems like they want to info for all the clubs, not just PCA, and it's cool what they have on the site, with pictures and info of lastest trips and actiivites...anyway...here it is( I hope):

From: Volker Spannagel [mailto:volker.spannagel@porsche.de]
Sent: Thursday, June 16, 2005 9:35 AM
To: Eric Sanders
Cc: Jack Bair
Subject: Club info

Dear Eric,

thank you very much for your kind e-mail - please excuse the delayed reply!

Porsche Club Coordination at Porsche AG in general takes care of all the world wide Porsche Clubs and part of this task is to also assist the officially recognized Porsche Clubs in their efforts being (or becoming) more efficient regarding activities, gaining new members, appearance in the public, etc. As, however, not all can be done from Germany, at all our importers we have nominated a Club Coordinator being the first contact if a national Club needs assistance. For the US market it is the above mentioned Mr. Jack Bair at Porsche Cars North America (PCNA).

Of course there is the umbrella to all the "regular" US Porsche Clubs, i.e. the Porsche Club of America (PCA); this is the main contact for all the regional Clubs in the US, but we do not stop them from contacting directly the US Club Coordinator. In certain cases Mr. Bair will then pass on specific requests, or part of these, to us.

The situation for the Registers for 914 and 356 is slightly different, as they are not part of the PCA, but individually recognized by Porsche. This means, that such Clubs may contact PCNA or Porsche directly with their needs and worries.

As you mention in your e-mail, you are member at the 914 Club - which is a nice coincidence, as for a long time we have tried to contact Mr. Alexander Buller who is, according to our files, the President of the 914 Club. However, we never were successful in this. So I dare to add a questionnaire for the detailed positions of the board of the Club and I would be grateful if you can forward this to the right person. Of course we are pleased if you could give us a brief report on the Club, the activities, number of members and if there exist sub-regions in other parts of the US etc.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance. Please do not hesitate to contact either Jack Bair or us if you require more assistance or information.

Kind reagrds,

Volker Spannagel

this is not PCA, and PCNA is just listed as a contact. This done through Germany, and they have all sorts of clubs listed on the site. I'll have to see if I can get a link for it...

I've been working very closely with the Club Coordination in Stuttgart for a couple of years (when I was a board member of the dutch 914 club)

You'd be amazed about what they (can) do. They have a HUGE! backing machine
The sky is pretty much the limit. Both for the clubs as well for the classic cars.

Been to Stuttgart a couple of times. Lots of fun and cool stuff!

Like Mike sayz... they do have rules for you to follow... LOTS of rules and they'll only back you up if you are a Porsche approved club

Another problem... we are not an entity (we're not a real club) and we don't have paying members

Judging from Volker's e-mail, I do think he is confusing us with another "914 club" though...

Posted by: Part Pricer Jun 16 2005, 09:25 AM

I went through the information that they are asking for and it seems like they are looking for an actual club, not just a web presence. Specifically, they want to know:

PRESIDENT
VICE PRESIDENT
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
EVENT MANAGER

Lyrissa is correct. Alex was the last president of the "Renegade" 914 Club. After a while, they dropped the "Renegade" label (originally adopted to differentiate them from Dennis Deeds' 914 Owners Association) and were just "914 club". They were the folks behind the old DGI.net 914 website and forum.

In an odd way, this website is a direct descendant of that one. IIRC, it started as a way to continue the old "Classified" section from the DGI site, and then it grew and grew.

Alex left us quite a few years ago now (RIP), though Barbara occasionally pops up around here... The other "prime mover" that I remember from that time is the former (and also no longer with us) owner of Ginter's Six.

Because we're not a club, as they define "club". We don't have paying members, we don't have a president, we don't have a newsletter... We're a bunch of oddballs who hang out on a Web-based BBS and decide to get together every once in a while.

Well, we do have a webmaster, and we do have an Admin group and we do represent a large number of Porsche owners. We also organize events, and have an event chairperson. I think one of the strengths of this club is its diversity, and distributed responsibility. Another strength is the activity we have online, no other group has so many postings every day. So what if the majority is off-topic, that is really not the point.

Perhaps we should have Jeroen contact them, give them our website URL, and let them decide how best we might fit the description of a club.

DD: what do we need a newsletter for when we have this list. It is always up to the minute unlike a newsletter, or some other online groups.

Hey Mr. Porsech!

Over at the 914club (www.914world.com) we were talking about how you guys thought we were the old 914 club. Well, that's kind of a fucking insult, if you'll pardon my French.

This club is WAAAAAAY better than that old club, which was mostly just out of date advertising, on a jumbled piece of shit BBS system, and you idiots made them charge $9.14 a year, while the 911, and 912, not to mention the 356, and 550 guys got lesser membership dues, over the same period.

THIS IS BULLSHIT, SHULTZEE... OR WHATEVER YOUR NAME IS!

As you may know, the 914 club likes 914s. We have alot of 914s. I'll bet you don't have one Klaus, or whatever your name is. I wouldn't let you screw my 914 with my schnitzel.... you haven't made a sportscar since... like 1974, some club members say as late as '76. (but just between you and me, they are as dumb as you are, you stupid bastard.)

Welp, if you'll get off your ass, and have us some stationary made up for the club, we might let you use gloves to touch a real 914.... and we fully expect the same 90% discounts the 911 guys get on OEM stuff.

You have 20 minutes to respond.

Thanks!

I make no judgements one way or another about how good or bad this place is. (I do seem to keep coming back though!) Just that Porsche AG obviously expects a "formal" (i.e., twentieth-century) club with all they feel goes along with it.

In my limited time here I've noticed most everyone does a fine job of self governing. In the event of anyone going off the deep end, it's handled by the senior members. Hell, I've been handled when I get too racey. biggrin.gif

As for the Pro's of associating with larger associations, IMHO, As long as their rules are not too intrusive to our freedom loving wellbeing then why not. There are beneifts. (what are they BTW?)

Posted by: partsman Jun 17 2005, 09:52 AM

Actually, you would be quite surprised to find out that not only do they have parts, they are getting more, and even re-issueing some every now and then. As far as prices, you would be surprised...we have all gotten used to going to the aftermarket houses, and the truth is, they are still getting some things from the dealer, and then marking it up.

Posted by: william harris Jun 17 2005, 10:29 AM

Eric is right. I know because he got almost every part I needed for my restoration - and the prices were usually below what I would have paid elsewhere - sometimes way below. Of course he gave me the 914club discount. wink.gif

So, what would you think about contacting them, seeing what's in it for the club. If it's of no value, we can have Miles draft up a new letter politely explaining (as he does so well) why we have decided not to join.

Posted by: Jeroen Jun 17 2005, 10:31 AM

the ARE making new parts and are continously looking into making more...
you'd be very surprised how much they actually put into this

I've been to a couple of international "classic" porsche club meetings (they call them "round table" meetings) where you can exchange ideas with the people from the club coordination and classic parts departments
they are constantly looking for input and feedback

we could be very valuable in that... here they can reach litterally thousands of 914 owners with very little effort

Like the CV joints... They can take 'm back into production if they have enuf demand
But they need to know about it first...
