914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Targa top

Posted by: Jackhartjr Sep 17 2018, 08:31 PM

Hi folks, stupid question time.
I'm very interested in one.
In all of my reading and looking at pictures, I don't know about the top.
I assume it easily comes off and probably stores in one of the trucks?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, it unlatches and stores in the rear trunk.

You can put it in a truck if you want. smile.gif

It won't fit in the frunk(front trunk)

It comes off relatively easy and it stores in the rear trunk. There are plastic tabs on the front of the trunk and rubber holders in the rear. The handles for in the cups in either side of the front of the trunk.

Who knew? Next you will say the engine is not in front and the radiator never needs water.

We have radiators?

Yes, for those not in the rainy PNW where the sun shines!

Don't feel bad though, they couldn't figure out how to get the top off either Bill -

But it doesn't come off from inside the cockpit like this -

In all seriousness Jack - it's an easy one person task to take off or replace -

Thanks for the replys.
Exactly what I thought.
I saw a 914 on a trailer the other day and loved it. I had forgotten how beautiful they were.

They look even better on jack stands!

If you can find one on all four tires it’s pure art!

See that? keg and brautwurst crowd. If it was a 911 it would be wine and Rose-ay.

Ever noticed how Germans use liquid volume (Liter) to describe the size of a car trunk instead of cubic meters?

Hilarious. lol-2.gif

Well known fact, many Subaru owners are transplanting the powerful 914 1.7s in a quest to get out of their own way.

Sure it does. You just can't do anything with it if you take it off that way, which is why those 2 are still sitting in the car looking at each other LOL

It's likely it was one of the attendees to the Octeenerfest event in Helen, Georgia. smile.gif

Yea.. a pony keg will fit nicely in there if you don't have AC.

Actually, when I owned my first 914 back in the late 1970s, I would remove the top all the time from inside. Simply un-clamp it, single hand lift in the center of the top while getting out of the door. Easily done if you are young, strong and flexible. I'm not doing that anymore. I also used to get into the 914 all the time without opening the door. With the window down, it was pretty easy. Again, I'm not doing that anymore. Aging sucks.
