914World.com _ 914World Garage _ warning - rear trunk tension bars

Posted by: jimkelly Jun 16 2005, 06:58 PM

I tried to replace the plastic rollers today. Luckily I had read on pelican how dangerous these bars are. One was weak - I was surprised but later noticed this was due to it was improperly/partially mounted. The other was wickedly tighted - I managed to move it to the side and pow - it did not go far but there is not way I can get it back. So I did a search and found this. http://www.camp914.com/products/shox.html - This looks to be what I will use to rectify the situation. Jim

Jim - send a message to Eric Sanders - partsman here. He made up a tool to remove and reinstall these torsion bars, with the right tool (allowing control and leverage) they can be removed and reinstalled with no problem. I know, we did it a couple of times. biggrin.gif

The tool is probably cheaper too - but $40 for struts ain't too bad and a bit modern as well. Thanks though. Jim driving.gif

You are lucky nothing was amputated. They are a tricky job to tackle.
