I made it to the 101 with Keith and then the motor died. Pull over for 5 minutes, then it would start right up and go another mile. Rinse and repeat. I tried a spare DME relay, but it didn’t help. Towed the car back home, grabbed the Toyota and drove back to Rennsport. I just got to the hotel.

Marty,
This picture eerily reminds me of Harald Von Keszycki. Now its your turn.
When he built the Monster 914 the Porsche factory guys were all over him and his car really gave it a going over. Coming from the aerospace industry they took him very seriously including Ferry himself. Porsche was having issues with the turbo 2.1 baby motor and on a few occasions Haralds car blew by some of those factory cars like they were standing still. Haralds car once sorted was actually fairly reliable whereas the factory cars were running stratospheric boost and coming apart between the heads and barrels. They resorted later to welding the heads to the cylinders to remedy that problem.
Nothing beats American ingenuity. I suppose the air jacks supports hanging down under the back of your car (If that's what those are?) may have caught someone's attention in the neighboring tent. Those guys aren't smiling. Maybe they are thinking the 1.5 liter TAG motor may have not been the best idea after all?
Seaside Sandy 914-6 in the foreground, winning 914-6 in the background.
I remember seeing this guy putting a beating on the guys at the last Reunion, had a HUGE lead, then a yellow flag ruined that. Made a mistake with a few laps left and ended up in second place
BTW a special thank you to everyone contributing, I love all the pics

They're probably made up one-offs Early 914 4 centers jigged and welded to Chevy or whatever rims. Not for the weight conscious but a great look as seen today among the Early S crowd.
Easy way to choose width and offset

i knew that might me the case... what i love about them is the deep dish look. since most of the wheels available for the non flared body are basically flush with the fender
and your also spot on about the chevy part - i have seen this look on 55's and some early 50 fords painted black or red with a small chrome cap to hid the wheel nuts.
any idea on wheels are are not custom fabricated that achieve this look????

Having custom backspaced Steele’s made is very common in the street rod world, especially around you in CA. https://www.wheelvintiques.com For instance. Not expensive either.

When the wheels were painted body color with small hubcaps it was often on the least expensive models. In the hotrod / muscle car world they are known as dog dish or poverty hubcaps.

Interesting backstory on the Frank owned Ginther -4.
During qualifying the fan grenaded and took out the fan shroud and some cooling tin.
I visited the pits observing the carnage. I asked them what they were going to do and they said "we came to race". Real down to earth folks. They started 29th in the final and finished. 30 entries in that class more than I.d seen in years past and very exciting to watch.

Looking good Mike. I walked by several times hoping to run into you to no avail. Hope to see you at an event next year. Mike

By page 19 most cars have probably been shared but here are a few of mine. This was our 3rd RR at Laguna and you see completely different things each time. Highlights for me were Porsche #1, A 924 DP car with the original bodywork, the dozen or so 959 road cars including a unique factory orange and forest green version. My wife enjoyed the celebrity aspect including meeting Adam Carolla, Mike "wheeler dealer" Brewer who performed the whole parting paragraph from his show ending in "Tah-Lah" for her, and Maria Sharapova. Hurley Haywood said there will be a Brumos museum opening in about a year (Jacksonville, of course) that will be twice the size of their old showcase for the race cars and sounded like merch, etc will be available again. Great time as usual and a must see if you haven't been. Andrew

Hi Jim_Hoyland, Can you tell us who was selling the Rennsport and 70 year anniversary badges? Thanks, Bill.
My buddy and I had to work for ours. We had to download the Rennsport 6 app and take 9 pictures to their specifications then show the pictures to them to collect the badges. We were limited to a choice of one badge or the other but not both of the badges Jim displayed. Never saw the one pictured at top and that is a very cool badge! If Porsche was giving them away that would have been cool but we missed that if true.
Posted by: Manny Alban Oct 5 2018, 07:26 PM
Porsche stopped by the PCA tent on Sunday with about 1000 of each badge They asked us to give them away to members. I thought they were older badges from other events, but no, these were actual event badges. They easily could have sold these for $25 each and they would have sold out. Nice touch that they gave them away.

It was in front of the in-car simulator in the Paddock. The Porsche rep handed two of them to Buddy. We thanked her.

I was given the one with the one race car, will make a nice display piece.

The Ferry Porsche 100 yr badge was being blown out by a Porsche dealership on vendor row...$20. The other Rennsport badges were not for sale and you just had to be in the right place at the right time for the hand out. Very nice of them to do, tons of free swag this year including metal street signs.

Weathertech is putting a lot of their investment cash into Laguna Seca, and Porsche put a lot more bells + whistles into Rennsport6 (compared to their 2015 show). Porsche basically takes over this track and puts on a show unparralled by any other Porsche gathering....including an evening concert with a big outdoor stage featuring Bob Weir, Seal .This year attendee ticket and vendor space sales were up (overheard) +30% over Rennsport5; and also heard that they want to hold several more Rennsports here. It would only be fair to rotate tracks for these shows around this big country...time will tell

PCNA employee said the next Rennsport Reunion is being planned for 4 years out. This one was done in 3 years so it would coincide with the Porsche 70 Year Celebration.
If they are thing like that the next one may coincide with the 75th (five years out). And it looks like they are in love with Laguna Seca.

Road America would be fun. Mid Ohio is another sort of central venue. I guess this is similar to the SCCA Runoffs situation, which has been moving around the country periodically for the past couple decades.

Marty,
This picture eerily reminds me of Harald Von Keszycki.
Nice work buddy.
Thank you Jeff for the kind words, hope that your killer project is coming together Yes...those are the 2 housings for the Genesis air-jacks ¡¡ Harald von K's supercar schooled my black six at Riverside pretty good, when it was just a pup with a 2.7/rajay turbo narrow body on 7" slicks Harald's 914 was an original Kremer 9146gt...that he morphed into that track beast, today that 914 has been returned to its former appearance as a Kremer GT. I believe the car is the same one at this year's Rennsport6 (scroll this thread...it's in here). Harald and I kept in touch through the years...he recently passed and we lost a cool enthusiast and a Real rocket scientist.

I think there used to be a -6 twin to Waynes GTU -4. I crewed one year at Daytona on these cars ...hmmm...in the early 80's? Wish I could find the old pictures. Pretty cool stuff. Seems like the 4 had some kind of BMW mechanical fuel injection on it. Also, seems like the name Volker Bruckman (spelling?) was associated with them. Anyway.. was a fun time in life....to bad the cars didn't finish well andy

The 4cyl was allowed to run with less vehicle weight (than a 6 cyl) and took major advantage of that. The mfi was off of a BMW 2002 ti, and the alternator ran off of the axle shaft. Lots of innovative creations on this one

Dave...she got the Perfect corner parking spot, NOT that anyone door dings our cars at a Porsche Gig, right ¿¿ Our hotel had an airfield-sized parking lot. At night I noticed an enclosed trailer that just parked next to our trailer... and asked myself WTF why there ? In the morning when we were hitching up to leave we met the owner of it, nice dude + we start talking Porsche. Turns out that he is the owner of Peter Gregg's/ Brumos 934.5 and kept our 9148-gtt company all night
