I wanted to share my progress on a Raby 2270 install in my 76 914. I purchased a new "old" Raby 2270, 0 hours, build date 2010 off of this board in April. Hade several discussions with Jake and he gave me good counsel in recommending that I replace the valve springs due the length of time the motor was in storage. He was right, it was interesting to observe the uncompressed length of the old springs due to some sitting in a compressed mode. Here is the car before, 2.0L D Jet FI, the new motor, new low pressure fuel pump with SS fuel line in the tunnel and underside of motor. Went with European Racing Headers with a coating. If I want heat I may move to Chris Foley's header system in the future. Have a dual fan Setrab oil cooler and remote oil filter. Decided to go down the rabbit hole a bit further with PMB restored brakes and 5 lug conversion. They are things of beauty. Also upgraded all suspension bushings to street performance grade, new Koni front shocks and plenty of fresh powdercoat. Hopefull will get it fired up tomorrow and will continue to post on progress. Been a fun project so far.

Several observations, how uncluttered the flat 4 is when fitted with carbs rather than all the hoses/air cleaner with FI. What purpose is the pair of plastic lines that are in the under tank area, and while the tank is out, do yourself a big handling favor and install a sway bar. Also there should be a fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump.

Having heat with a performance header system is a nice bonus but that shouldn't be the primary reason for choosing my exhaust system.
More power and awesome sound are the best reasons.

The red one is a 73 2.0L that is headed to a new home in North Carolina. The Tangerine one is a real 914-6 that was started as a rotisserie restoration that I bought in an uncompleted state. My winter project.

What purpose is the pair of plastic lines that are in the under tank area, and while the tank is out, do yourself a big handling favor and install a sway bar. Also there should be a fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump.
I agree that a sway bar would be a good idea, especially with all the power you are adding.
The only plastic lines I see are the brake fluid supply from reservior to the master cylinder.
It looks like there is a fuel filter attached directly to the fuel pump.

I've got a Raby 2270. It's a work of art and runs great. Strong mid-range and free revving. I have an artificial red line of 6000 rpm, but it still pulls strong after that if I don't watch it. As Jaimie mentioned, I have a fuel filter just before the fuel pump and one before each carb. The only issue I have is it is very cold blooded and the idle stabilizes at 950-1000 after engine warms up to normal operating temps. You will enjoy this engine.

You are correct Jim. I decided to retain the small filter that came with the fuel pump. I have another larger metal filter mounted on the lower firewall before the fuel line heads up into the engine bay. Yes, I wish I had added a front sway bar early in the project.

Finally did initial test drive today after tweaking a few things the last month. It is a snarly, raspy, nasty beast on the road and mega impressed with power curve. Worth the long time on the lift doing all the odds and ends.

You're really going to love that Raby engine--just so powerful, really brings the car to life. Consider Chris Foley's cable linkage for the carbs to be absolutely sure of getting the sync correct....http://www.tangerineracing.com/throttlelinkage.htm

Interestingly the one thing I am not happy with is the throttle linkage set up and in fact have ordered Chris's set up for installation this winter. Good call.

Only the previous owner knows. We tried to straighten out but a tough spot in the tunnel. Came to the conclusion that hours vs. reward didn't justify.

You have a great looking car. Do yourself a favor and buy a dent puller stud welder and pull the bottom flat.
It will always bug you if you do not each time it is on a lift.
The car is well worth the time.
Sorry to bring it up but your car is just too nice to leave a detail like that alone. The tool is only a 100 or so. Sell the tool to someone when you are done.
Enjoy the hell out of it.

It will always bug you if you do not each time it is on a lift.

I totally agree. We did use stud welder and dent puller and could not get it to budge.
