1:10 Scale
240mm Wheelbase/ 170mm width. Tamiya M-Chassis (long)

Price will be $35 including decals and shipping. I will place the order once I get at least 50 paid orders including my own of course. Paypal account transfer is prefered (so I don't get charged for credit cards) or money order. If I know ahead of time I may accept a personal checks.

PM me with questions. PayPal me using account djm914-6@comcast.net. Mailing address is 2 Olean Road, Burlington MA., 01803

I'll start a running list in this thread of orders. Please make sure you include your screen name, real name, Postal Address, and quantity with your order.

Note: I can not afford to loose money on this, so if the USD plumits, I'll either cancel the order or ask for an extra amount. Likewise, if the current rate changes for the better, I'll offer a refund of the difference, put the extra toward a paint job, or donate to the fund of your choosing.

Thanks for playing,

OOOOH!

i know nothing about r/c but having my car in scale would make me a happy boy (like the beat farmers song).

can you give recommendations on the proper r/c platform for this body, cost and a good excuse to tell the wife?

muchas gracias.....

Diesen finden Sie unten.

Grouchy People! slap.gif biggrin.gif

The store I usually go through doesn't carry the Tamiya M series cars anymore. I've seen quite a few on ebay though. Look for the Tamiya BMW M Roadster, Tamiya Boxster or Tamiya Carrera. I'll see if I can find a shop that carries these cars in a combo package. Otherwise, you need the chassis, Radio, Batteries and Charger. Quick guess is under $250 on the road. That get you a car that'll travel 25mph and scare the cats in the neighborhood.

I suppose I should come up with a date. I just figured I'd order when I reached 50 but it looks like it'll take longer than expected. I'll put some thought into it today.

Money order is in the mail.

And I already have a built up Tamyia RC car that is the right scale. but it doesn't have a 914 body on it.

My painter is going to freak when I ask him to paint two RC cars exactly like our full sized ones.

The third one is going to be a Jello Mold.

Lando- You mask and paint the inside of the body, then cut it out, the put decals on. they are pretty bad ass.

Have a couple ?'s:

1. will it fit on a HPI RS4 Nitro2 base. It is gas powered. My 996 turbo body is a little banged up. Need to update.

2. Do you have any other dimensions like wheel base (axle to axle)?

Posted by: Demick Jun 22 2005, 04:52 PM

#1 no

#2 240mm wheelbase, 170mm width

It says it's a M chassis but measurements are a little different. No good for 914 body? If not I guess I'll get the Bimmer.

lemon jello is faster laugh.gif

Posted by: Demick Jun 23 2005, 11:49 AM

This would be one big jello mold. Remember, to make it work, you've got to make the jello at like 4x strength, otherwise it won't hold it's shape.

I made one with a 1/24 scale slot car body a few years ago. This was only about 6" long. These bigger bodies are more like 15" long (probably 10X the volume or more).

Anyone done one before?

I've painted many bodies, but this will be the first 1/10 scale 914. They are pretty easy to paint up. Paint goes on the inside, decals on the outside. I've posted pics of the 1/24 scale 914s here before.

QUOTE
How many do you want this "investor" to buy?

The investor can buy as many as he/ she would like. I'll offer a percentage of the painted price. Anyone interested can email me (djm914-6@comcast.net) or call me (339/234-0575).

QUOTE
How much of an investment would get mine painted for me?

My prices to paint a shell depend on the detail the owner wants. For a single color and trimmed (cut) shell, I charge $25. From there, the sky is the limit. I can do race graphics, lettering, Kal Kustom paint, etc. I'm sure most would want at least two colors (black top and rockers plus body color). For the club, I'll charge $30 including full decal placement. Chrome trim is also an option (decals are gray), email for pricing.

QUOTE

Yeah, this will happen. I've contacted the vendor to make sure the price per unit doesn't change. I just hope I can get some extra money to buy the few I wanted.

scottb is on the list.

Chris914n6, I should have a couple of painted bodies available later, but I can not afford to carry ANY extra costs right now. Being unemployed, I may not even be able to buy my own.

scotty b, Tamiya kits are really nice to put together. Tamiya is known for having the best directions and kits on the market. They are not the fastest out of the box, but are great on their own. I'm available if anyone has any questions.

Mike, you do realise that there are no decals on this body. On 10th scale it would be very expensive.

PLEASE READ

In responce to Eddie's post, this order is for a 1/10 scale lexan shell. What you see in the first post's pictures is what you get. This is only a blank (clear) shell. If you need help selecting a chassis, there are several here that can assist you including myself. If you need someone to paint the shell, I can do that too. Please email me for a price quote on painting.

As we are approaching the last few days to place the order, please go back to the first post and review the payment instructions and list of orders. If your name is not on the list, I missed your order. If there is a "no" before your name, I don't have your money. Monday is the last day to be placed on the list. If you haven't paid, please do so very soon.

Ok, I understand the confustion now. The body we are buying come with some basic decals such as silver window trim, bumber "chrome", emblems, etc. What you see in those pics is what you get.

The body I painted for Mike has some Jagermeister graphics and didn't come with any stickers so I had to paint it all. Some people prefer to paint all details instead of decals. My chrome paint for example looks far better than those decals.

I'm actually looking for unpainted.

Tamiya sets the standards for easy to build kits and good quality. With enough 'hop-up' parts they can be quite competitive with the race designed cars.
Been out of the hobby for some time so I can't tell you where the M-chassis fits in the lineup.

Nice job on the group buy. I got an 18th scale Revell Germany 914 in my hands and the proportions just dont look right for a micro (hpi or xray). Its just too wide sad.gif same goes for bigger scales. An RC car is generally sized to fit a dodge stratus looking car. The 914 is so much wider then the Stratus it just wouldnt look right. An early 911 on the other hand... idea.gif

Posted by: scotty b Jul 13 2005, 05:28 PM

Dave , or someone in the know. Seeing as how I will now have 2 RC cars to assemble will I also need 2 controllers or can both cars be set up to run off of the same controller? Also, what type/brand/model etc controller will be best (price and performance) with the Tamiya kit? I'm not looking to go racing just have some fun biggrin.gif Thanks.

Posted by: djm914-6 Jul 13 2005, 06:02 PM

Since you're new, let me first say: buy an ESC (electronic Speed Control) for each car instead of the kit's mechanical unit. An ESC will save weight, be less complex to build and maintain, plus may be faster. Oh, and you also get added control. Make sure you get one with reverse for "bashing" as racing ESCs only have forward.

For a Radio, I've always bought Futaba. It may be just habit these days, but I've never had any problems. The Radio I run in my nitro car is a three chanel digital. I can set the programs for three individual cars. If you go a similar route, you'll need to buy extra Servos, Reciever and same chanel Rx crystal. It's the crystal that makes the recievers take command from the radio.

Feel free to contact me directly if I can help. (djm914-6@comcast.net or 339/234-0575)

For a lower budget, replace the radio, servo, and ESC with a lower end unit and skip Rx and Tx batteries and charger for now. Even the stock motor is fun in a tighter course.

Car upgrades will depend on the car. Ball bearing are a must if the car doesn’t come with them. BBs are good for longer run times and higher speed. Better oil filled shocks, sway bars, springs tires and such are a good step too. These cars are tuned much like full size cars. Remember, A full size 914 runs around 100mph. Even a basic RC chassis under these 914 shells will be good for 200-300mph scale speed. 600mph is entirely possible with out breaking the bank. And a major plus, these are plastic, so there’s no rust!

Of the people that ordered these shells, who wants me to do the painting? I have one order for a Ready To Run (RTR) RC car which includes paint but what about the rest?

For this order only, I'll trim the body, paint up to two colors and apply the stickers for $40. If you want a RTR RC car like the other club member, the price will be $350. Shipping has already been paid for.

If you will not be needing paint servics, then let me know that too so I can ship the order to you as soon as I buy some boxes (I forgot about having to do that).

I'll paint my own. Thanks Dave! I would like to see pictures posted of the ones you do paint.

For those of you that are new to RC, painting it tricky because you have to layer it in reverse from the inside. Also the paint is not cheap. Dave will do you a great job at a great price. I have a 914 tshirt and a 356 sweatshirt he painted. VERY NICE!

Posted by: djm914-6 Aug 14 2005, 10:37 AM

Mark, I'm sorry, but I forgot to ask for a spare set. Actually, the order came in with a missing grill and missing door handle set so I have one less than I thought. I'm not going to make a fuss and just paint a those details myself.

Come to think about it, what body ae you talking about? The only order than came trough previously that I know about is the small 1/24 scale cars. Those didn't have decals. These are 1/10 scale (much bigger!). What do you have?

Got my body yesterday. Thanks Dave smilie_pokal.gif smilie_pokal.gif

Now I've just got to figure out how I'm going to paint it. I had planned on painting it like the Sonauto #40, but now I've been second guessing that. Jagermeister, Brumos, Moritz, Nurburgring #1, I just don't know. Maybe I should have bought more than one body.

I'll be mounting it on a track narrowed, wheelbase shortened, HPI RS4 Pro chassis. This is an all wheel drive, high performance carbon fiber race chassis - so is will have at least as much go as it does show.

1. After cleaning, does the body need to be Scotchbrited before painting for adhesion?

2. For those of us using metallics ; should the paint be fogged then shot normally, or just fogged for 3-4 coats

3. after the final coat, should the inside be cleared for longevity??

Thanks for the 3000 time, Scott

See my http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=ST&f=2&t=6373&hl=painting thread for some tips.

1. trim the body
2. mark mounting points by trial fitting on chassis
3. scuff with scotchbright pad IF you are not doing graphics or chrome paint.
4. Wash with dish soap and dry.
5. plan paint scheme on outside of body
6. Mask areas not to be painted or multiple color areas.
7. paint darker colors first.
8. back lighter colors or translucents with white or silver.
9. use light coats only enough for even coverage. Don't try to make the shell opaque.
10. clear paint with a fuel proof paint if running on a nitro chassis.

Hope that helps

edit: If you plan on running these as a RC car, make sure you use a paint designed for polycarbonate / lexan. Regular model paint and automotive paint WILL flake off in no time.

BTW. I have some extra used radio equipment that came with a car that I bought. Would be good for someone who wants to put together a kit and will need electronics gear to complete it. Comes with:

HPI branded Aitronics Blazer radio and receiver (27mhz AM)
Servo
AC/DC battery charger
Very fast 'stock' motor
2 battery packs

Someone can have all this for $30 + shipping (it's kind of heavy, probably $10-$12 for shipping). All you would need in addition to a kit to have a running r/c car is an electronic speed control.

Kerry

Those are dimensions of standard 1/10 scale touring cars. Most every 1/10 scale R/C sedan on the market will be those dimensions. Unfortunately, this 914 body is a very oddball size and will only fit a very few chassis.

The width (wheel track, not body width) is about 160mm, and the wheelbase is 240mm. Only a few of Tamiya M-series chassis are of these dimensions. Check this website for what is available:

http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/category.php?sub-id=36350

But check each one to make sure the wheelbase is correct - not all of them are. Basically, these are your choices of cars to get. I believe that the BMW M-Roadster or S-2000 is the best of all of the cars in terms of design of the chassis.

Demick

Posted by: djm914-6 Sep 5 2005, 07:06 AM

Also the M- chassis Miata and Alfa Romeo will work. They both come with the piece to make the longer chassis needed for the 914.

Has anyone finished one of these cars yet? Then again I guess these are 914s so maybe no one will ever really be finished but there should be varying degrees of completion.

There has been talk on the RC Board I'm on about a different kind of paint contest. This will be to replicate a car in disrepair. I figure the 914 would be a perfect candidate for such a paint scheme. I'm picturing Rusted sails and fenders, dented doors, mismatched panels and light lens. The only part I haven't figured out is the sagging longs.

The 914Gurl car is next on the paint/ assembly table. I'll post a few inprogress pics as I go.

Actually it's not really about the money. The money I bring in pays for new gear and supplies. If I were to actually break down what I get paid by the hour, I'd give up. This isn't a business, just a hobby. Shoot, if I had the courage to add thigs up, I think I may have lost a bit of money on this whole RC order anyway. I paid extra to get them here faster and lost money on PayPal fees.

Okay I have been looking at getting the RC parts and I need some help.

WHat is needed to get a working car. It seems like most people don't sell ALL the parts with their car??

Anyone know where I can get a simple running RC frame and motor for the 1:10 shells?

The ones on e-bay are not complete and I know ZIP,NADA, NOTHING about RC cars

The 914Gurl car is next on the paint/ assembly table. I'll post a few inprogress pics as I go.

Any special tools need to assemble the actual car kits? I am ordering my car this week

Sorry Gwen. Your car is still on the table. I've opened all the boxes and checked out the goodies but haven't started assembly. From the looks of this kit, it should take me about two evenings; maybe three with the few extra goodies I'm adding. The bodies are marked but not yet trimmed. The GTeener car is a quickie... maybe a few hours but the 914GURL car will take a bit longer. I have a great design layed out and think you'll flip when you see it. Boy I hope you like the girlie girl racing look. wub.gif
