This is a 1974 car, but not the original paint ( it was Olympic blue). It's a copper color, now faded due to the sun, but it suits the card in my eyes and I'm wondering if anyone recognizes an approximate Porsche color.

Like Phillip's copper metallic car. Looks good when new. Reminds me of my mom's old buick when it's faded.

I'll take olympic blue anyday.

You can look at Jim's Copper 75 in the pix from the PCA-GPX breakfast last Saturday, for what it looks like in good condition.

There are also pix of 914s in most of the 914 factory colors on p914.com (.net & .org) when you're trying to figure out colors on 914s, & they also have a lot of originality & what stuff was on which MYs there.

I can't say whether the one in your pix is repainted in the official Porsche/914 L99K Copper Metallic.

There are a few other 914s which were resprayed at some point in that color, including mine from 76-80.

While I liked the color on my 914, by my 1980 rolling resto I changed it because it looked like metallic orange in our SoCal sun & attracted too much attention from the PD/CHP etc. - so I went to the "Pavement Cammo" Anthracite Grey Metallic in my avatar pic, which then got very little attention!

No need to guesstimate an approximate color. Here's the chart of colors for each year of production. Jim from seal beach has his 75 copper 914 out to many coffee and cars and other events in our area. His car really is a nice example to look at and enjoy. Local line ups of 914s help many pick there favorite color in the row....http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?act=colors

I said guesstimate because it looks too dark for the factory Copper. Thanks for the additional info!

Factory copper cars would have had either black, tan, brown, or white interiors. Odds of each one are likely in that order, with black the most common and white the least.

The 914 didn't have specific exterior/interior color combinations. You could get any color 914 with any of the available interiors. I think the non-black options may have been an extra cost.

Two Things: Is this 'Visualizer tool' on-line somewhere that we on the forum can use, or a personal program you have ? ...and secondly, I know I'm weird but I really like dulled down metallic paint on our cars, it kinda glows at the rounded fenders, and has a lived-in look. If it wasn't for that rear trunk I'd say 'Don't Paint it!', just maybe buff it. JMHO. This is a color I've considered for my '72.

You aren't weird, unless I am weird too. Wait - check that.

In any case I very much like the lived-in faded color. I am sure that new paint would be much "brighter" and not have the same effect. She is going to need paint but unlikely I am going to be able to match trunk to the rest of the car, so the whole thing needs to be done. At that point, will be tempting to put her back to factory Olympic.

Sigh...

I have seen black tan and white. mine was tan originally its now black. Although I think the brown(cinnamon) would look great too. Only know of 4 Copper metallic cars. Jims, mine , one with white somewhere in bay area years ago, and one from florida that was listed here for sale a couple years ago that went to Europe.
also Noel's car that was repainted blue but was originally copper metallic- that happened to a few of them I think. Mine had a bad maco paint job over the original color that we took off and then repainted original color again.

You get the flat look from the 1st stage of the Copper or any of the 2 stage metallics. If you just shoot just the 1st stage and then spray a flat or any degree of clear with flattener in the clear you may get what you want if matte finish look copper is what you want.

When people started to paint cars with matte paint I was surprised to see very expensive cars in Beverly Hills with Matte paint jobs. MB, P cars, Bentleys

It would just be easer to wrap the car for that look. You can just remove it when you grow tired of the look.

great color, i agree with Bob about the matte look. i almost wrapped the car but realized it took a lot of work to make it all smooth so the wrap would look good and it doesnt last as long as paint, so at that point might as buck up and pay for great body work and paint.
