914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Battle Scars

Posted by: bbrock Nov 21 2018, 12:12 AM

This was inspired by @http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=17068 's http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?s=&showtopic=330153&view=findpost&p=2667324 about letting the battle scars show. These scars do have a beauty and I've often thought it would be cool to do an extensive rustoration and leave the welds raw without grinding or dressing. I thought it might be fun for people to show their Dr. Frankenstein work. Here are a few favorites from my build that I almost hated to see disappear.

If I could make my welds look good I would be leaving more to see.

Japanese do this "perfection in imperfection" as Wabi Sabi. When a dish or something is broken they glue it back together with a gold colored glue.

You can use a silicone bronze wire in your Mig or Tig for that matter, picture from https://www.millerwelds.com/resources/article-library/silicon-bronze-mig-brazing-basics

My welding skills are best compared to my drywalling skills - apply 5 gallons of mud, sand off 4.
