914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 914 gets some Factory love

Posted by: Unobtanium-inc Dec 20 2018, 02:52 PM

My local dealer sent me next year's calendar and Miss August is the 914. Next time some jack-hole tells me the 914 isn't a Porsche, I'll send them a Calendar!

Here is that same car in the flesh. It was getting more attention then the 911 next to it. 3 floor in the Porsche Mueseum last week.

I had never seen this car before.

It's a 914-6
Check the (10) holes in the steel wheel rim, makes it a real 6. first.gif

911’s had a similar shape for ~50 years. Our cars were available for only 6 years. Their rarity always seem to attract attention.

Chicks dig the 914 biggrin.gif
20-30+yr/olds I've talked to or overheard at shows, to them a 911 looks like a squashed bug.

Euro car....no front markers and euro rear lenses ....but US front lenses ?

Posted by: 914_teener Dec 20 2018, 06:50 PM

Doesn.t have the VW logo in the back.

So wether it was specifically marketed for Europe is debatable.

I kicked myself later for not noting the VIN as it had one in the window.

If memory serves, the museum sourced this car from the U.S.

Looks like it's been painted since its acquisition, as it looks nicer than it did in a UK magazine's photo shoot at Hockenheim. Can't remember if it had side markers then.

Hi Adam. I say “A 914 is not a Porsche”. There. Said it. So now please send me a calendar with the Porsche 914. Thanks. Dave

this one used to be in the states until the end of 2010
it was for sale at a dealer in the Netherlands in March 2011
in March 2014 I heard the fist time that it was bought by Porsche Classic

this is how it looked like before Porsche bought it

Ha! Proof that even they hate the warts.

It's the official Porsche Calendar with the coin and fancy packaging. I think the dealers get a bunch of them.

Yep....that is the official one.

Saw it in the mueseum store as well.

I don't know my 914-6s well, but wasn't there an air intake in the front bumper/valance for an oil cooler?

Posted by: Larmo63 Dec 21 2018, 08:02 PM

No, no intake.

I like the steel wheel/flat cap look on these cars. The Volkswagen ones are so-so, but the 911 style silver wheel with chrome flat cap looks business to me.

Understated.

Only when race teams added them on the 914-6 race cars, like the 914-6GT.

Thanks. I'm learning smile.gif

It is a beautiful color on a beautiful car, BTW. I like the slight downhill stance as apposed to the more common nose high stance.

Posted by: ClayPerrine Dec 22 2018, 02:05 PM

Now I know what the correct color for our six actually looks like.

Funny you say that. My German friend says that in Germany they have a nickname for the 911 that translates as 'squashed bug'.

Got this Porsche After Sales Calendar as a gift from my brother and was surprised to see this for April:

Last summer took mine to an “All German” car show. Lost count of the number of people taking pictures and checking it out. Really quite astounding considering the more expensive iron. There were two others as well, both ‘75s which were quite nice. Just shows how loved these classics are.
