914World.com _ 914World Garage _ 74' 2.0L engine number location

Posted by: luvatenor Jan 4 2019, 11:21 AM

Hi, does anyone have a clear picture of where the engine number for a 74' 2.0L would be. I am having a tough time trying to view it. Thanks-

Is this the same location on all 4-cyl. 914 engines or does it vary from year to year and engine size?

1.7 1.8 have the number on top of the block middle right side at an angle

Is that the same for all 1.8s? late or early?

Should be the same for all 1.8s.

Evidently some 1.7s have the number further down somewhere, but I haven't seen one. (Haven't looked for engine numbers on many 1.7s, though!)

Note that VW applications may have the numbers in other locations; many have them in the 2.0 914 location even when the engine isn't a 2.0 one.

And I think I have read that 912E engine numbers are actually on the fan shroud???

All VW411/412 engines have the numbers in the 2.0 914 location.
