A 76 silver 914/4 just crossed the stage at the Barrett Jackson auction. It looked pretty clean and had 48,615 miles. The hammer dropped at $23,000 plus the 10% auction fee.

The hood looks like it could use some adjustment around the headlights, but otherwise, a nice,clean car. I personally would like to see another $10.000 added to the final sales price. Of coarse, I would have fixed the exhaust too...

Too much armor-all for my taste. Funny how a few years ago people would have been amazed at the high price for a bub car.

I'm in Phoenix to attend the Barrett Jackson auction. I have a video walk around of this car and the 75 that sold earlier in the day for $20,300. The silver 76 had rust issues and other problems that will be in the video. I'll post these this weekend. Ray

Ray makes a great point by his post, no matter what anyone says about a car and no matter how great the glossies look, it is of paramount importance to personally inspect an older car in the flesh before making a buying decision. The silver car looked good, but was obviously not good so probably sold for even more than it was really worth in the open market

We had a guy come into the shop who was pretty well versed with 911's. He has about 6 and recently purchased a 914. He was talking about his pristine car and having us do a 5 lug conversion. I pointed out his poorly repaired front end damage and all the body rot that was covered over by undercoating. He told me I must be mistaken since he had a very well know, high end classic car shop do the ppi before it was shipped to him. I pointed out a half dozen trouble spots and told him I could poke a hole with a screwdriver if he wanted proof but I wasn't going to fix the hole afterword. He left to find another shop to tell him what he wanted to hear.

We just did a new engine for a customer who bought a 911 on ebay. "ran when parked". Engine had a big hole in the case. He just laughed it off but "normal" people can't take that hit.

I can't believe how many people will send money before taking the time to do their homework.
