914World.com _ 914World Garage _ A/F gauge Ox sensor bung location?

Posted by: tmessenger Feb 4 2019, 08:53 PM

I ordered an air/fuel gauge so I properly tune my carburetors and now need to weld in the bung for the Ox sensor.

My car has a Triad muffler so I'm thinking the transfer pipe between the upper and lower mufflers? I really want to measure both banks so if one of the carbs goes lean I have some advanced warning. I've read it's better to put the sensor before the muffler so don't know. The only other option is to place the sensor in the header right where it enters the muffler but then I'm only reading one side.

This is probably to late , but you would be better served to have a dual readout gauge , with dual bungs , one at each exhaust merge , that way you can tune each carb , for the desired mixture , instead of the combined flow that could mask a single carbs less than ideal adjustment...

I put mine on the up tube leading to the mufflers. Works great.

Thanks, Zach

The gauges I bought also monitors the sensor temperature so I'll give it a try in that location.

That's where I had it when I had a Triad.

Be smarter than me when you weld in the bung. Conventional wisdom says the sensor should angle down to, as I understand it, prevent moisture build up on the end of the sensor. That's what I intended to do, but the Triad's up/down orientation is a little deceptive. I ended up welding it opposite of what I intended so the sensor was pointing somewhat up. headbang.gif

It didn't seem to negatively impact the readings, but that was (another) reason to feel stupid that day. Maybe I am just spatially challenged blink.gif

I had Dave add the sensor bung when he built my Triad and that's also where he put it.

Yup, before the muffler- angle it up per previous post.

I don't have a triad, but here's a shot of mine installed right before the collector pipe enters the muffler.

What brand AFR did you go with?
I went with the PLX Bluetooth one so I could use my phone for monitoring readings rather than installing a gauge (wanted to keep the stock dash look).

This is the one I ended up ordering: https://www.14point7.com/products/sigma-lambda-controller-free-2
