I've been considering cutting the heater tin off the exhaust pipe. It's in the way of doing valve adjustments, and it's just an oil and dirt collector. It does seem to be in good shape though.

My car did not come with any of the related engine-side heater stuff, other than the heat exchanger itself. So I don't currently have heat, nor do I have any plans to add heat. The car is an autocross toy and occasional weekend driver.

However, I have been trying to make only modifications that are relatively easily reversible, to preserve any future value of having a 'stock' car. I don't want to destroy something that has value.

I searched the site, but didn't find much info.

Thoughts?

My car came with no heat exchanger just the original 2L headers with the tin removed. These headers had been ceramic coated and I wanted to keep them so I took the tin exchanger off of another one cleaned it up and installed on the ceramic coated header.

You can just fold back the tin hem on both sides and remove and reinstall at a later date or cut it off altogether if you like, just don't cut the pipe.
