I'm doing interior work, and found this when pulling carpet out on passenger side under dash. What's it for?



it sits towards center under dash.

Yes, it's part of the pieces added into the passenger side floor as needed to shorten the space when they eliminated the "dog-bone" footrest of the 1970-71 models with the fixed passenger seat.

You should have some other filler going across the passenger footwell too. If not, check with 914Rubber, as IIRC the took over the repro footwell piece with a speaker space from 914A&P (James). You can use with or without a speaker in it.

Otherwise, source one from a parts car 914.

I’m pretty sure the early cars had a smaller piece of foam than the later cars and they also had the dog bone. At least most of my cars are that way.

I have the old & new style ones. They're interchangeable. Mark is correct. One is slightly larger than the other.
