Tickets just went on sale for Luft6. They sold out quickly last year.

Anyone planning on going?

My Green 914 was accepted for the air-cooled display again this year. Is that thanks to Ethan? Are you helping with things again this year?

Theme song from Cheers.

Taking a break from all your worries
It sure would help a lot
Wouldn't you like to get away?

Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name
And they're always glad you came.

You want to be where you can see
The troubles are all the same,
You want to be where everybody knows your name.

You want to go where people know,
The people are all the same,
You want to go where everybody knows your name

Bunch of folks over on the bird board not happy at all with this year's event not having a dedicated Porsche parking lot (for non exhibitors). And not wanting to park in Universal's general parking lot, also not wanting to Uber over to Luft. Heres a good solution; the L A. River runs right next to Universal, just hop on one of L.A.'s finest inflatable Pink Flamingos (piloted by L.A. homeless) , jump out , dry off and present your ticket !

Patrick and his staff are totally aware of the 50th anniversary of our teeners , so there should be a major 914 contingent there !

Did anyone have a problem where they bought a passenger ticket and the passenger's name was not on it? I got 2 tix both with my name. I emailed the team but of course just an auto-reply saying they're slammed...

Posted by: Optimusglen Apr 10 2019, 09:31 AM

yeah it is mentioned somewhere in the ticketing process. All tickets will have the card holders name but at the gate they have a list of all names. So anyone wanting to enter needs to have identification if they are over 12 (or something like that)

Is anyone going to the kickoff event for Luft at the Petersen the night before? Can't find it if you just search but I guess there's a link to it after you buy Luft tickets.

Yes same problem with wife ticket, there was a receipt showing what you did and showing what you bought, so I am just going to print that and bring it along.

I was accepted too and first time displaying, went last year as a spectator and it was nice but this venue should be amazing.

Looks like things are not working well in the ticket department at Luft this year. confused24.gif
As campbellcj stated he had received his passenger ticket with his name on it and so did I.

Now, this morning I get an email from Luft saying they noticed an "issue" with my order. saying "The number of tickets purchased does not align with the number of first and last names you provided".

Interestingly enough my confirmation receipt email clearly shows my wife's name as Ped #1 but that part of the confirmation will not print out. Go figure. blink.gif

There is no phone number I could find to call and they are basically giving 24 hours to buy another ticket???

So I replied to their email with full explanation and received as campbellcj did, a reply basically saying they were slammed and would read emails as they come in. Great.

Anybody else experiencing this problem?

Yes, same issues here; same email saying non-matching tickets to named people. Their whole ticket ordering portal seems to be a bit of a cloister feck.

Did get a reply saying the tickets names on their computer will be the "master", overriding any naming on the tickets, but I get the feeling there will be some level of chaos on entry.....

Posted by: Optimusglen Apr 17 2019, 09:33 AM

Right when I ordered the tickets I read that for orders with multiple tickets, all printed tickets would have the name of the one who made the order. It's astonishing how few people actually read that.

Hmm, I did not see that but I did see the statement that the name on each ticket must match the person's ID. So this AM I got an email reply stating that all tickets will have the same name but should have different ticket numbers....not....I got 2 tickets with the same name AND number, separately emailed PDFs. But they say all is well and the check-in list at the gate will have the correct names input on the web site.

Hey, really looking forward to displaying our 914-6 at our 3rd Luftgekuhlt event at Universal Studios and especially to see all of those coming from 914World.

Looks like at least 8 on this thread are displaying and 11 as spectators. Of course, there are likely many more that haven't posted.

I also had the situation regarding the ticket alert - check your order come up and thankfully did get a reply back to assure me my order was correct.

As one member posted, hopefully they will have all of us grouped together but would assume we would get some early email possibly advising us? However, they are pretty efficient in getting the cars into the area in an organized fashion.

We're really looking forward to coming to see everyone's cars and to meet other 914World and other 914 owners (and other car owners).

See you Saturday (rain, rain go away.......)

Just a thought, do you think that 914 owners (displayers and spectators) would like to

Hey guys,

I will be a volunteer that will most likely have the cars move to the organizer’s pre-coordinated spots within the location. Say hi to me, Ed, your friendly 914 owner and community leader.

If you are chosen in the event and have a 914 I think everyone will be in some neat spot again like before. From what I hear the venue is amazing. They come up with some thoughtful things.

I can ask and see if we can have a spot to park together.

Hi Steve,

Looking forward to seeing you again this year. It was great meeting you last year......It was cool seeing you pull in your beautiful green 914 the evening prior to the Loft 5 event.
I thought the organizers did a great job of displaying some of the 914s last year especially with displaying different cars above the crowd on flatbed trucks. The 914 spot located adjacent to the food court was supreme. It will be interesting to see how everything is organized for Loft 6.

Just finished cleaning up the 914-6 and hope to drive it up to hotel by the venue early enough on Friday to miss traffic in the rain. On my way to my first Loft (#4) it was raining so hard that I had 2 cars (separate incidents) do 360's on the freeway and slammed into the barriers!

Bummer that the present weather forecast for Saturday is 80%. However, we still had a fantastic time in the rain at Loft 4 and the photography was awesome with the rain element.

See you on Saturday! (BTW, are you going to WCR next month?)

Hi Big Eddie,

Thanks for being a volunteer for the event. I would assume there will be a neat spot for the 914s again this year which would be cool.

I thought I saw mention that they would be sending out additional instructions prior to Saturday to those that are displaying cars unless I am mistaken. I've always moved in the day or night prior (but I understand isn't possible this year due to venue). Haven't received any other instructions yet.

Looking forward to seeing you at Luft 6! (Are you bringing your 914?)

Just by shear luck, I shared a picnic bench for lunch with the co-founder of Luft-6,
Howie Idelson and his family, while the wife’s talked girl stuff, we talked about the future of this event and the crazy logistics in getting it held at Universal Studios. When I pressed him on next years location he would only say that Japan was on the Radar.

FYI...there was no VIP area and he had to buy the hotdogs for his family. Pretty down to earth dude.

FYI,, The hot dogs where very good.

1.5 hours to get from the parking lot line to the area where the cars where.

Lines with people with bags went 3 times as fast.

Parked car 9:45am in parking structure. Walked through security and inside in less then 15min..... blink.gif I saw everyone standing in line and commented to my wife why did they point us through the gate and not down the block where the back of the line started........ first.gif

Howie's son Dane , about 9 or 10 has been karting for several years.
Dane's a hard charging hot shoe and is a podium finisher. This kid is going to be a motorsports champion. Both Patrick Long & Howie hatched the Luft idea about 6 years ago. Luft 1 was in a small Cafe/ Moto coffee shop in Venice, Ca named Deus ex Machina. First gathering was word of mouth, free, and limited space parking for about 40 cars. It just keeps getting better & bigger each show driving.gif driving-girl.gif

Looks like the 29 Frank Ginther prepped car was there.

Who owns the other two C prod cars now and was that the yellow reproduction that is up for sale there?

Pics please. Couldn.t make it this weekend.

Unbelievable show apart from the hassles at entrance I heard so much about. For the most part I wasn't taking many pictures, I was just trying to live in the moment and soak it in. The number of beautiful cars was overwhelming.

agree.gif stance is right although the photographer shot the photo from the wrong angle might have a better look at Andy’s car if taken just a bit more to the left.

Abe and I arrived the entrance gate around 9 but our ticket is for 10am. So we have to make a uturn from the gate and parked nearby along the street for a qtr mile away.
Since street parking only allows 4hrs max. By the time we got In the show, it’s already 10:30 and we have to go back to my boxster by 1pm.

With all the beautiful cars in that show (well that is why only selected cars are allowed/approved to display), 1 full day is not enough if you really want to check the details of each car. Just for the 914 alone which is more than 35 super cool 914s. I only able to checked few of them. If I just have the time, probably 3 to 10 mins each 914 just to savor the details of it plus hundreds of various unique porsches on display.

Next time I will have to plan a full day and bring a paparazzi style camera.

Only Jeffery, Andy, Kent and Matt that we able to talked too and just a quick chat since we have to focus on the 914s.

Always wondered why someone has not tried these style of flares on a 914 instead of the boxy big-shoulder look of the more-common 916-ish.

I saw that syle of flares on a Lotus Europa racer (can't see to find it again) and it looked pretty good...

What's the story with the turn signal buckets, anyone get any detail shots of how/were the air flows through them. Interesting!

Hopefully more photos of that yellow 916 show up, what a cool car that i have yet to see in other photo threads online

This "Fake" that was special ordered by Frau Piëch, ex-Otis Chandler, ex-Matsuda Collection, and today in new ownership. Right on to that windbag of an opinion, guess he will never know what he was eyeballing.
Patrick Long and staff staged this yellow beauty just in front of the brick wall , alone by itself without any fanfare nor signage...to be the "Wallflower" . Most of us here with the keen eye, or others curious enough to ask around for answers could figure that this one of the limited 916 run.

Thanks Marty! It was not my choice but I live with it as the flares, paint, and mirrors date back to about 1995 and I can't think of an easy way to change it. Imron paint holding up well! I did have a guy stop by and he really wanted to buy it.

Your car looked great!

1990s paint, even here in CA, was really good stuff—my old catalyzed acrylic enamel job from ~1991 was holding up beautifully in terms of the paint, but the prep under it just wasn't straight enough. Ah well.

About those mirrors: Have you thought about going 1974 RSR style, as seen on the driver's door of this car? You won't see as much (though I ran this actual car, and found the mirror useful "enough"), but they might cover up the mounts for the 1980s flag mirrors, and they would look period correct...

Thank you so much for posting some awesome photos of my 914-6 which I've owned since 1976. It was so great attending my 3rd Luft and I was so amazed at all of the 914s that came and getting the opportunity to meet some of the owners. The entire event was so beautifully done and having so many 914s on display was awesome. We hope to see many more 914s and meet some new 914 friends at the WCR. Will you be there? I'm new to 914WORLD. Thanks again! driving-girl.gif

^ This car is beyond cool, and it was great to see you and meet Ryan, even if only too briefly. If ever you can be tempted up to Marin for a drive and some lunch, let me know!
