Now that the WCR is over, it time for you to plan your 914 birthday weekend. You can head southeast for Okteenerfest or northwest for the Teener Turnout.
Here's what you can expect in the PNW.
Our Saturday schedule starts with a tech session at the Porsche Dealership in Fife where we'll take a close look at the 914 and the 718. We'll use the shop
space with lifts and examine the cars from top to bottom.
Then we'll take a drive around the south sound and I've been getting lots a help from the local PCA tour crew so we will be traveling fun roads.
The tour ends at a park in Kent where you can join in and celebrate Oktoberfest. We'll be parking the 914s on the paved pathway right in front of the event
so they can be viewed and envied by all the other P car owners. You don't need to
drink beer to have fun at this party although plenty of people will be doing that. Your $25 ticket gets you one beer and
brat. I guarantee you'll be smiling and laughing when Manuela Horn and her band start their show.
Sunday we'll meet up at a local restaurant in Kent for a parking lot car show. I have someone who has promised to create a video of the cars
and their owners. The restaurant offers a great brunch, but if you're not a big eater (or just cheep) you can just order something off the menu too. Lastly,
we'll have a presentation by Mark Greene of Car Yeah This is the guy who designed the Griot's headquarters and he's a Porsche nut to boot. We should be done by 1:30.
If you'd like to get a t-shirt with the logo or a hat, I can help you with
that or I can send you the art. The PCA club will have someone at the Saturday tech session who will make up t-shirts on the spot, if that suits you.
I have set up an account at Motorsportsreg.com where people can register for any or all the session. We use this site to manage events in our region
and it works great. If your thinking of attending, I urge you to sign up using that site, but if you're in fear of "the Web", you can just PM me and I'll put you on the list.
The only cost for any of the activities is for the Oktoberfest and the profits from it go to the Rotary club that sponsors it. I can arrange for you to buy tickets
without using the website, if you'd like.
Here's the site where you sign up.

Sounds good Billy!
Thanks for organizing this. I hope I can make it for at least one of the two days.

Yes. Thank you. Logo looks good.
In for a shirt, of course. Any idea what color shirts are available?
Have Manuela wear one. haha
On Saturday morning we’ll start the day at Porsche of Tacoma who will do a host a tech session where we can compare the 914 to the new 718. Which car will come out on top?
Hi Billy,
I just happened to stumble across this, I am hoping to join the fun and festivities. Is there more info or details ??
Thanks for putting this together
I'm starting to plan out the Saturday morning Tech Session and need someone to volunteer their car. We'll be looking at how the 914 and the 718 are alike and different. I'm looking for a stock car that is as close to original as possible. We'll be putting it up on the lift too, so the cleaner the better. Of course, you'll need to be able to get it down to the dealer in Fife early in the morning too.
Any one willing to step up?
I spent two hours with one of the guys who plans tours for our local PCA club studying Google maps and laying out a route for the Saturday drive. So much work. Next he said we need to make the drive about 5 times and tweet it.
Lots of fun roads. At least they look fun from the satellite photos.
Here’s our speaker for the brunch on Sunday morning. His name is Mark Greene and he’s very entertaining. A Porsche guy for
his whole life. You can hear him on his daily podcast Cars Yeah.
What is general area for the drive? N/S/E/W?
I can volunteer my '74 CanAm LE for the tech session as it should be out of restoration by then. Totally stock other than 911 starter, Pertronix ignition, and SS heat exchangers. Or use another. No worries.
Looks great Billy! I'll plan to be there with my wife. Make for a nice weekend out
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=179
Can I get a colored box around the thread please?
Also I have the event registered on Motorsportsreg.com now. If you haven’t used the site, you might like to check it out. It’s an easy way to get people signed up for your car related activity. They also promote for you by sending emails out to people who want to receive notices. Our PCA club uses it. For those of you who avoid signing up for yet another “service”, you may simply let me know what parts of the weekend you’d like to attend.
Thanks for putting this together Billy! Im stoked to have something like this so close to home!
How was the trip on the Triumph?
Here’s our entertainment in one of the shirts
Hey Billy checking back on details, any chance of booking at Best Western Tacoma Dome for us out of towners ?
im thinking of the RV parking at the dome ?? Is there info on the Saturday/ Sunday activities?
Thanks
Tony
I’ll work on a hotel with motor home parking. So far I have a tech session planed for Saturday morning at the Porsche dealership in Fife. Followed by a tour that ends at the Octoberfest party. Sunday is a car show and breakfast with Mark Greene.
Tony, the hotel in Kent is 35 miles or so from Tacoma. Don't take a boat. Drive over the Narrows. If you decide to stay in Tacoma the 'La Quinta Inn' is pretty nice. Left on Portland AVE off of I-5. Close to the Porsche dealership in a round about way. The 'sweet spot' timewise is being thru Tacoma before 3. Traffic congestion goes south rapidly. If you're trailering the 914 the boat will be really expensive and you might need a reservation to get on the one you want. Both ways. Hassle.
Last weekend I spent most of the day driving the roads we planned out on google earth for the tour. It was a lot more work than I thought. Some of the roads were just too bland and others went thru neighborhoods with too many stop signs. In all we drove 4 hours and 70 miles and now we have to figure out a new plan. The fellow who is helping me has planed many tours and he says it takes about 5 seasons to come up with a plan
Hey Billy. I had done this for rally/tours for the MG Car Club-Northwest Centre back in the eighties. It's not easy. Your diligence and work on this is greatly appreciated.

Why is it that sometimes my pdf appears as a download rather than the actual document?
Figured it out. Still need to fix a few issues with the registration program, but almost ready for people to sign up
Bump for registration details on first post
Blasted out on FB Hopefully we get a good "turnout!"
Just a bump to remind you to sign up. If your afraid of using Motorsportsreg, you shouldn’t be, but just let me know and I’ll sign you up.
Now that the WCR is over, it time for you to plan your 914 birthday weekend. You can head southeast for Okteenerfest or northwest for the Teener Turnout.

Rich confirmed it this morning. I'm fucking nuts! Taking on a new weekend event is like having another job!
The dealership who agreed to host the tech session is eager to provide a venue, but they are much too busy
to sit down and work thru the details. Last week, I waited 25 minutes in their showroom only to find out that
the guy I was meeting with had to run out. The general manager promised me that they would find time to meet again.
On the bright side, Mark Greene has been very helpful. I'm sure everyone who attends the brunch on Sunday morning
will be entertained. He's going to talk about what he has learned after interviewing over 1300 "carguys" (and Gals).
Here's a link to Mark's podcast for those who don't know him
https://carsyeah.com/
Its time to check your schedule and sign up for the fun. NO SEAHAWKS GAME that day. They play on Monday night.
https://msreg.com/914turnout
I signed up a few days ago.
Shameless bump. How many are signed up now Billy? Event won't show the attendees.
Like a dozen. Lots of folks say their coming but haven’t signed up on line.
I tried to last night even, seemed...difficult. I have to register for some other account to accomplish?
Yes you create an account on Motorsportsreg.com, but it’s harmless. They send you an email once a month listing all the car activities that match your profile. If you’d rather not sign up, I’m happy to register you “offline”
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=453
I hope to be able to attend Saturday's events. I'll know by the end of this week if I can make it. Thanks for putting in all the work on this!
I just signed up. I already had an account for PNWR events and if anyone is concerned, msreg.com is harmless and I haven't had any problems with unwanted spam or other negative affects of being a member.
I am in Berlin so I will sign up later.

I may have you register me and not that janky web site Billy. My computer security hates it!
Rocky. I had the same problem and have it everytime I visit msreg.com using Explorer and MS Security Essentials with a Windows 10 OS. Very ominous but so far no ill effects.
Motorsportsreg was just bought by Hagerty and they’re having problems. I talked to them about the security warnings and they are working on it. Again if you’d like just send me a pm and I’ll show you registered. I have paper tickets for the Oktoberfest that I can put your name on and you can pay me back on the day of the event.
I just got done talking with a tech from the site and they would like to know what problems users are having. I tried registering on three
different browsers with three different computers and they all worked. Hopefully they fixed the issues, but if not, let me know.
I don't want to make this difficult. Here's another photo of Mark Greene
Better yet, here's another photo of Manuela Horn.
I'm telling you, she's a hoot!
Hi Billy,
After reading the thread I’m still interested, what overnight hotels are nearby? Or a central location? I’d be a pussy to trailer my car but may have to fill up twice to get there.
Rocky what’s your plan ???
Billy, I’ll try again this weekend and if I run into problems I’ll pm you. I’m definitely going! Mark green lives across the street from my parents.
Tony your always welcome at casa del rock!
Interested in getting a t-shirt!
I got registered ....still got the security warnings
Registered!
If you're coming from out of town I'd recommend you stay at Comfort Inn at 22311 84th Ave S. in Kent. The rooms are nice and the
parking lot is safe. The manage said the best prices are normally found on Expedia, but occasionally on of the other travel sites
beats them. Maybe we can plan a Friday night gathering if there's enough people up for that.
Here's another tease for Oktoberfest
Warning issue is figured out. It has to do with a SSL certificate that was registered for http, but not https. They are fixing it now, but if you're concerned about the warning type in
http://msreg.com/914Turnout and it should work fine. If not, please let me know
Happy to say that the Anklebiter and I will be there for brunch on the 15th as long as the weather cooperates!
Hotel booked. Leaving Fri AM. Thanks to Cary @ Middle Motors, my car is running super cool so, thinking of taking the scenic route from PDX.
Westport ferry across the Columbia, up hwy's, 4, 101, 107, 112 and 8, then maybe up the 3 and take the ferry across to Seattle.
If anybody in PDX wants to tag along let me know.
To take a boat to Seattle it's Bainbridge, Bremerton or Southworth. Friday? Check with WA Ferry if a reservation might be required. The days of driving up and just getting on a boat are over during certain runs. Do not take the boat to Edmonds. You'll get to the hotel in about 2 hours during commute. You don't want to be getting off any boat before 7pm.
There was a piece about the ferrys last night on the news RE wait times. 2 weekends ago the wait was up to 3 hours on some sailings. Not a holiday weekend either. If you can get off the boat by 2 traffic shouldn't be too bad. The loop you have planned will take some time.
I registered and confirmed 2 weeks ago, not sure my plan on arrival. If I leave here Sat AM I should meet up w Rocky in GH by 9 ish then head to the tech session.
Refresh us on the time lines, schedule, and locations
Thanks Billy
Just booked a room at the new Holiday Inn in Auburn, I have points at IHG and Hilton so the HI cost me $30 and 20000 points, the Hampton Inn in Kent seemed closer but way more $$$
Ok, I signed up....
Talked with Greenie tonight. I really debated on sharing the news that he's planning to attend. I hope this doesn't start the the rush to cancel registration!
Saturday the day begins at 9:00 with the tech session. I'll be there at 8 to get the final issues sorted out. James and I have been talking about hosting a Friday evening gig for the out of towners, if there's enough interest
Another update
On Sunday morning before the brunch 9-11am, Mark Greene will be interviewing people about their cars and I'll have a
professional cameraman there to record it. Mark does this for a living, so I know he'll look good on camera. Will you?
Well...did you figure it out?
FYI, Tommy Kendall's Dad used to have a 914. We got a chance to talk to him for a little bit at Amelia Island when they had the big 914 display. He's a super nice guy!
I'm going to try to make it up for a day. Probably be Sunday. My car still isn't ready but I'm waiting on a fuel pump. Which should have it running. I noticed my clutch on the floor. My new hydraulic line apparently has a leak. I've got to see from where
I'm only going to post this offer here. This offer isn't being made to everyone. I know some of you would like to attend the event, but just can't make it for one reason or another (or maybe you can't handle the TRAFFIC!).
Anyways, I have three very nice gift certificates that will be raffled off at the Oktoberfest. They are:
$500 Labor only transmission rebuild by Dr Evil
$100 Gift Certificate to Sierra Madrea
Caliber set Rebuild by PMB
Raffle tickets are $20 for 25 tickets. You Paypal me the money and tell me how many tickets to put in each raffle box. Send the Paypal as a gift so I don't pay extra. If your not a Paypal user, send me a PM and we'll figure out another way. My accout is wmshott@gmail.com
If you're going to the event, you can buy ticket there. There will be other stuff at he raffle and they'll also be auctioning off 2 new 4K TVs. All the $ goes to the Rotary club who is funding the beer and entertainment. Looks like there will be 200 people there, so it will be a small Oktoberfest, but large enough crowd for fun.
Break out your lederhosen
'Handling traffic' is not an issue. I KNOW how to handle traffic. It's called avoidence. Btw, make sure you're in the correct lane when you get to Fife or you'll be making a Uturn on 56th street south.
Looks like the Anklebiter and I will come to the tech session on Saturday morning rather than the brunch.
Looking forward to seeing everybody! Thanks for arranging everything Billy!
Hay Billy, do you have the addresses for these locations we will meet somewhere?
Thanks for putting this together! Prey for no rain
@http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showuser=1845 1701-A Alexander Ave E, Fife, WA 98424 is the dealer in Fife.
14800 SE 272nd St, Kent, WA 98030 is Lake Meridian Park where the tour ends.
23826 104th Ave SE, Kent, WA 98031 is the Golden Steer for breakfast on Sunday.
Cool. Addresses are in my phone. Just a wash and wax away from being ready. (Oh man. I probably just jinxed it.)
Anyone still looking for a place to stay? We have a vacation rental on S Lake Washington 5 minutes from downtown Renton. It's listed on VRBO.COM listing# 7073472. Shows a 3 night min but can do less. Hope everyone has a great time!
Thanks,
Don
Saturday’s weather is looking better than originally forecasted. Don’t let the threat of rain keep you home.
I’ll be emailing everyone a schedule tonight as well as posting it here
hey guys - i will be registering soon - thanks for putting this event together!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/pacific-northwest-us-wa-id-ut-hi-ak/1039924-pnw-teener-turnout-9-14-9-15-50th-anniversary-914-a.html#post10590383
I was planning on send out an email today but I just had too much on my plate. I think most everything is spelled out here and on the Motorsports site. In the simplest form
Saturday 9am is the tech. Show up after 8. That’s when I’ll be there. Julie will have a check in table with name tags and goodies. The dealer will have muffins and coffee
After tech we go on the tour. We’ll end at the park for the Oktoberfest. There will be people t show you where to park
Sunday is th brunch. Show u around 9. We’ll have a cameraman there who will be recording interviews of everyone we ca fit in. We’ll go in for brunch at 11:30. I’ll have a tent outside for the interviews
Have lots of goodies!
Ow the forecast for Saturday say no rain.
Forecast looks ok. See y’all in the morning!
Just finished the name tags and the final count
26 914
7 other Porsches
That's a very good turnout. Your effort and diligence on creating this is greatly appreciated. See you in the morning.
Could not make it up today but I will be up in the morning. See you then
Was hoping to make it up tomorrow for the brunch. Not going to happen. Not only is my car not quite ready. I've had a really long week & tomorrow is my only day to just relax. So a 6 hour drive for a 2 hour brunch just isn't in the cards. Hope you all are having a great time. Appreciate pics
Dane showing off his workmanship. Dealer didn’t want his car in the showroom. Guess it wasn’t pretty enough. Everybody sure liked seeing it. Thanks Dane, it was a lot of work for hm to trailer it out and back.
Fun event Billy! Thanks a lot for the great time. I can't make the event today, damn.
Was a great event! Billy, you and your lovely wife were excellent hosts (forgive me for forgetting her name) and put a lot of work into the event. Thank you!!
A few photos...
My car was invited into the showroom for the 914 overview session, flaws and all. There were nicer cars than mine to bring in to the showroom, but it didn't look half bad under the the showroom lights.
Mark Greene
In the shop looking at Anklebiter. Nice GT3 on the lift...
Rich also gave a great overview of his his creamsicle but I missed getting a photo.
Getting ready for the group ride...
On the road
Pit stop
Representing at Oktoberfest
We had an absolute blast, only made the morning tech session but it was great, wonderful event Billy, thank you to everyone who made it possible!
GT3s make good backgrounds
Finally getting around to chime in and thank Billy (& Julie) for all their efforts!
Very successful & enjoyable gathering / celebration~
Larson Porsche (dealership) was a very hospitable & professional jumping off point.
The drive was a bit rough through the urban leg, but opened up after the quicky-mart stop!!
The park & party were great I got to meet a a bunch of folks, including an amazon with a terrible singing voice
Props to all the OR folks for driving up!
My car looked good & drove well until the return home when I lost a battery.
Sun. morn was a wash-out with a cold & rainy day. Marc Green was a trooper for sitting out there under a pop up suffering while photo interviewing we that braved the weather.
Look forward to how badly we (I) look on camera.
Now we get a break before we do it all again for the real 50th anniversary (2020/9/14)
Well put, Rich. Kudos to Billy and Julie and the rest of the team for a job very well done!
I spent Saturday evening wondering about Sunday's rain forecast. Ready to go early Sunday, I fell prey to fear of hydro-lock and spent the rest of the day contemplating a rain shield for my exposed cone air filter and missing the frivolity.
Sunday morning's rain storm was horrific and for a while I thought no one was going to show up. Here I am all by myself
We did manage to get 6 914s and that made a nice backdrop for the video. I had said we would be doing some recording,
but I don't think anyone was ready for it. All the better, we got some spontaneous answers. Here's Rich and Todd in the hot seat.
I need to get some editing done next
