914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Seat won’t stop sliding back and forth

Posted by: mtc911 Apr 16 2019, 07:29 PM

When I use the handle to put the seat where I need it for comfortable driving position it will not stay in place. As soon as I accelerate or put any pressure on the seat back it slides all the way back. I have taken 914 seats out in the past - just curious what I’m getting into or if anyone has had this problem. Floor pans have been replaced by PO and new hinges are in place. Thanks.

You have to pull the seat and find out why. Two 10mm bolts (6mm w/10mm head) at the rear of each slider. Remove bolts & wiggle seat and it will come out. Flip it over and find out what is binding the latch.

Single engine Cessnas had the same problem but with more catastrophic results. laugh.gif

Perhaps the “spring” needs to be bent out a little more. Adding more pressure to the lock-in mechanism?

Easy to see once you have apart.

Sounds like the lock pin on the slider release is worn or rounded off, same might
apply to the perforated track. Or....the leaf spring is not pressing the pin into the rack.
OR ......... Too much Horsepower

possibly the tension spring has broken not keeping the seat loop segments firmly placed in the rack slots, OR you have something installed backwards

I’m having this exact same issue. Wonder if the OP found the fault?? Will pull the seat again- any further advice?

If I remember correctly I think if the rails that are attached to the seat are on the wrong side this will happen. Or is it if it’s on the wrong seat (driver adjuster on passenger seat, passenger adjuster on drivers seat). I can’t remember but try the switching the rail from seat to seat.

Good call- I had a passenger yesterday and the same thing happened on the passenger seat as well when I nailed it. I’ll pull the seats and post what I find.

Is 230hp too much?? Haha.
