I finally have my car reasonably roadworthy and am working the bugs (mostly self inflicted) out of the build. The car is a wide body, so wide tires and 17” rims. I am running 300 whp, out of a Wrx eng/trans combo. The car has 911 front suspension and brakes and 911 rear rotors with 914 PMB rebuilt calipers.

I need better brakes. I have tried doing a search, but typing in brakes yields lots of results. I was thinking of changing out to Boxster, but thought I would pulse the group first.

Do you have 3" or 3.5" struts?
3" = M calipers or Brembo aluminum calipers from an Alfa Romeo
3.5" = SC, Carrera, S calipers, Boxster (with adaptors), ect.

Do you know what year 911 they came from?
Measure the caliper mounting holes, center to center.

Do you know what year 911 they came from?
Measure the caliper mounting holes, center to center.

Don’t know the year, believe it is early 70’s. I only had a tape measure, bu the center to center measurement was 3-1/2”.

What are you doing with the car that the 911 brakes you have are enough?
The 3 1/2 center to center are the later 911 struts from 74 to 87 911 SC/Carrera.

The 911 calipers should be able to lock up the wheels even with wide tires and wheels.
If not then you have an issue with the brake working correctly not being undersized.

If you are tracking the car and the brakes are fading from use after a few laps that is a different issue.

Of course putting bigger brakes on doesn't hurt and has it's own cool factor.

The brakes are in very good shape, new rotors, rebuilt calipers, new master cylinder.

I was “exercising” the car in in a canyon with lots of twisties.

Brakes are great at slow speeds but get overpowered .

My brother has an ‘85 SC, my car is much faster.

I am 57, the cool factor doesn’t really come in to play.

914s are 7-800 lbs lighter than a 911. It's not the rotors & calipers.

pads?
19mm master cylinder?

agree.gif The brakes on the car should be more than enough.
Make sure the whole system is up to snuff, pads bedded in and all the soft lines are new.
