914World.com _ 914World Garage _ OT: 911 Engine Eye Candy

This is 911-related but I thought I'd share some pictures.

I have been having the privilege of helping Jay Koehler rebuild some 911 engines. He did my 2.7 for the six last winter. We recently did a 2.7 and a 3.0, both fairly stock. Now he is redoing his 3.7 for his IMSA GTU vintage race car, which he drove 24 hours at Daytona years ago.

I recently saw on this board a discussion about a knife edge crank. Now I've seen one. Here is the custom made one going in the race car:

He had the bearings coated to reduce friction.

Crank added.

The crank is made out of a piece of solid steel. Note how the edges where it rides on the bearings are "rounded" for strength. To fit, the bearings have to be similarly rounded.

And this is the car it is going in.
