Need to replace my passenger side rear wheel bearing. I've got the cv axle off the car and the big 30mm nut and inner stub axle that the nut goes on off as well. 2 questions
1. How do you get the outer wheel hub and wheel bearing off the car. Can this be done with the rear control arm still on the car?
2. Once these part are off does the bearing and outer wheel hub have to be pressed in? Do I just need to take the control arm off and get a machine shop to press the old parts out and new ones in? Thnx L
It does get pressed (or pulled) apart, and pressed together.
It can be done with the trailing arm on the car. Usually by heating the arm and freezing the bearing, and then working quickly.
Some prefer to just remove the trailing arm and take it to a press.

Or you can make something like this, I have seen other types. Admittedly, I did not make it. I bought it from someone at a swap. It will remove the old one and instal the new one with trailing arm still on the car.

There is an old VW mechanic that shows how to do it on youtube.
Here is a video perhaps this helps.

I have this kit from Harbor Freight. Works great to remove and install rear bearings on my 914 and Honda. https://www.harborfreight.com/front-wheel-bearing-adapters-63728.html
I have a tool for that and I would send it to you but I don't know where pinnacle is.
Thanx for all the input. I'm in NC

Here's a good video I found yesterday on the install part.
You can make one as shown above but be sure to use a grade 8, fine thread piece. I bought a home made set up that had a course thread and was probably grade 5. It destroyed itself very quickly. Look at the HF model that Brett posted. The very fine thread makes it functional.
