914World.com _ 914World Garage _ I want a 914 pickup.

Posted by: Aircooledfool May 28 2019, 07:01 PM

I know there are old threads on this topic but thought it would be fun to share my latest 914 fantasy with the group. Any idea on how the rear of this 914 was built? Maybe using the rear end from a Subaru brat or was it all hand formed?

Hand made. At least two of them. There’s a recent pic of the 914-6 safety car.

VW already did that for you.

Aase Brothers did the most famous ones.

One original Aase Bro 914 pick up was built by Dick Troutman. Dick Troutman built my 6 #41 back in the 70s. Rod Simson had a silver 914 Pickup with a V8 and 7s 951 wheels all around. I saw it 10 years ago.

I don't know enough about 3D models and how they could be used to on a project like this but I found this tonight and thought it looked cool, https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-models/car/sport/porsche-914-pickup

I don't always roll in a VW pickup, but when I do; it's the Wolfsburg Wheelstander

I would be totally down for building one for someone.. It would be a great project to pick away on.

Gunnar Racing restored one of the original Troutman Barnes pickups and has photos on their website.

Go to Projects, Completed Projects, Page 1. They do really nice work!

Photos from the Gunnar website.

There was a blue one running around The Boston
area in the later 70’s.
It had crash damage when I saw it and
it had “shark gill” air intakes on the quarter panels.
Was pretty ugly....

Or maybe just remove the rear trunk lid?

Myron brought his 914 pickup to a party we had a few years ago. It is a very well-done car as can be seen in the pictures below.

Those are great pictures! Thanks for sharing. Is Myron a member here?

Posted by: Ferg May 29 2019, 02:27 PM

Only two built by troutman that I am aware of.

The red car that is now owned by Myron is the one I tried unsuccessfully to buy many times when it was part of the Bill Jackson collection here in Colorado. It is the 4cyc brown car with the girl in the original pics. It is in excellent hands with Myron.

The six car, seen with the fuchs and phone dials is the one that was converted by Gunner to be a safety/fire car replica with flairs ect added.

If you look at the black and white safety car pic, that was a flared six, not a pickup
