Spare tire hold down. You can put a spare tire there and secure it with the same threaded thing you use in the front trunk ...

Thanks SirAndy!

Why? To carry 2 spares?

Will the roof panel fit over the rear spare?

Was this 75-76 only or all years?

- To move the spare to the rear if you need more space in the front
- Yes, you could carry 2 spares that way too
- Yes, the roof still fits unless you have a very wide rim and tire. I have a full size 7" rim with a 225/50 tire and the roof still fits, albeit barely.
- All years

That is amazing info for this rookie!

I'm just finishing my SBC powered 76. I DRIVE my cars and since the radiator and hoses occupy much of the frunk eliminating the spot for a spare, I've been a little discouraged to take a road trip in this car.

This info solves that problem! beerchug.gif

When I finished my Rover aluminum V8/T5 MGB I did a 2400 mile road trip to California. Good times. I want to do the same with this 914. Having a spare along gives me more confidence to do it!

Thanks again.

To create space up front to turn it into a proper beer cooler! beerchug.gif beer3.gif

If you have a flared car, it’s a good place to fit the wide wheel that probably won’t fit the front. Especially if your spare is a space saver.

Thanks for that info.

Always wondered why it was there. Well done

I've owned my car for 43 years and never knew that! Just goes to show you that you can learn something every day. Especially from the World forum.
