For a few years now the switch in my /6 has been declining in its ability to get past the run position to the start position. It can take upwards of 10 tries to engage starter. I finally ordered a new electrical portion believing that to be the issue. Now that i have the electrical part removed I see that the issue is in the mechanical part. Has anyone had one apart to see if they are repairable? Its now gone to a much more difficult fix removing shear pins and the switch than just the easy fix. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jule
Maybe Dan can fix it for you. Sounds like it is just worn out. Replacements are in the $800 range.

Dan, can you work on a 911 ignition switch?

Jule,
You can try Pelican 911 parts forum for a used one.

I spoke with porsche dealer as this is supposedly a special order, ? keyed to your vin. Is it possible to change the tumbler assembly on a used one? Or am I stuck going with porsche? It is the same ignition interlock that is used in 911 up thru 98 I believe.
Thanks,
Jule
