well i went to hershey today, i spoke to almost every person who was selling 914 parts ( well not just one part ) and none of them we members here. they all said they did not like the bs. one guy even said all he hears about with the club from people who he knows that come here is his name and what he is doing. well lets just say i have never read his name here at all, so i dont know what he was talking about. other people just said they are sick of all the people here who think they know what they are doing. but the basic theme i got was they all said basicly the same thing... no good info and too much BS ( boy i love this place )
now for the good parts, i talked with charles from LN engineering, and one member ( i dont remeber his name ) who was selling his 300 mile 76 2.0 engine for 1000. it is complete with late exaust and all. then when leaving i see 2 914s with people next to em, one with a 914club hat. so i stopped on the side of the road and ran over to say hello wavey.gif hello dan
there was a guy who had a bunch of parts there and a primered roller, which looked ok till i noticed the fiber glass hell hole. so if anyone sees it for sale on the east coast run away, i honestly dont know how bad it is under the fiberglass, but if it is bad enough to glass then well alfred.gif
also the swap meet was like 1/4 to 1/8 of what it has been years before, basicly it was a wasted trip

BS has its place...but i definetly think we are the top source for 914 info...what individual selling parts could have greater resources than this place?
Was it Alan Letts from someplace like looserville Ohio?
The guy sleeps with ferrets. Consider the flea bitten source.

thats funny, ive been referring people to this site for info, but since its all bs i guess ill have to change my tune! Prob. referred three people in the last week or two! Oh, and this site is all BS.....im leaving!
ok, im back.
Yeah, there is alot of BS here. Wouldn't have it any other way. This place is extremely entertaining. But.......when you really need information for a problem it is amazing at the people who step up with answers. I wanted to get back into 914s for a long time but was afraid to because they were really outdated. Once I found there were places like this and a few others to help with all of the probems you can encounter I jumped right in. Keep up the good work 914 Club and pity the people who don't take advantage of the experience.

I will leave on the 15th of July.

hey Scott good to meet you. My wife was like what is up with people running up to you just because you are part of some internet club. Well it is more than that, it is a great bunch of guys who would go out of their way to help each other. As for people's opinions tell them to piss off. The whole event was typical high society porsche snobs, except as we know the 914 guys who were friendly and outgoing. My wife even recognized this. We saw some of the the concourse show yesterday. Impressive collection, but just that, shells that are never driven. I hope they all enjoy look at, and not driving their cars.
I enjoy looking at my car sitting...
Oh, you're supposed to drive it??? Weird.
Oh, and to the East coast tight-wad panty-wastes...
And the west coasters can bite me too... All that good weather and sun has gotten to your heads.
Come live where it's balls cold in the winter, 90+ with the same in humidity in the summer, and mosquitoes galore.
It's all BS...

Scott..you're confusing two different events....the annual Hershey swap meet was in April...the weekend we were at the WCC....this swap meet was part of the Porsche Parade and most of the attendees are not typical EC 914 people. |
Sounds like the Boxter crowd was out in force. I meet these pricks who bought a new Boxter and think it is the only Porsche ever built. Alot like the 356 groupe. And the 993 crowd, and the 996 crowd and the 911 crowd, and the 944 crowd, and the 914 crowd Crowd suddenly became a really stupid werd

with so many different types of people in the world, i just let them pursue their own interests and whatever they want to do to/with their own cars... well, it's their car... i don't have time, effort or interest to judge and criticize them. surely, there are enough people with similar interest as i have to have some fun.
hopefully, the west coast brothers won't hold it against me that i'm on the east coast and won't sterotype me based upon a general report of attendees at the parade swap meet. since generally, porsche is a very expensive car (it is to my budget), then there will be people who are rich snobs, rich normal friendly people, poor snobs and poor normal people connected to the car and car events.
i did find enough treasures to rate the meet a success. thermostat for type IV, fuse box covers, fan housing flapper, rear sway bar mounting bolts, thermostat cable rollers.. all for $15
there is alot of BS here, alot of it i find humorous and get a good chuckle at. i feel that i have control over the computer mouse and if there is something i don't like or find offensive, well gee, i guess i don't click on it or just close it.
Well, being from the Great State of Texas, I suppose I have a different impression of this club. I love the advice that I get here, and how everyone is more than helpful. It is sue better than the late 80's early 90's when I was driving my car daily to school. You basically had to rely on tech tips from AutoAtlanta for help.
Occasionlly when I come across another 914 owner, I will ask them about the club, and most of them are aware that it exists, but I don't think they utilize it very much.
The club does have a west-coast flavor to it, which is maybe why it sometimes invokes a nuetral or slightly negative reaction. One gets the impression that everyone knows each other "in person" on the west coast - like there is a 914 owner on every block or something.
But it sure as heck beats that Renlist piece of crap list - I couldn't ever get people to even acknowledge me on that forum.
They must have been PCA members. No BS with those guys.
This is the best thing going in the 914 world.
Paul
I dare say all those assholes are welcomed here!
Just like us!

I am very east! Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada, 6 hours east of Bangor, Maine by road. A twisty 2 lane, built for 914's road, and I may be the farthest east member, and I love this site and appreciate immensely the people who look after it!! I am very impressed with the knowledgeable people who are always willing to give good sound advice on a huge variety of topics. Anyone who speaks negatively of this club has another issue which is not on the surface.

I just love it when people generalize...
Having been in both worlds (944 and 914) I can assure that the 944 crowd is no different then the group here on this list.
You can find arrogant pricks everywhere you look. When most of the wine and cheese crowd find out I have a 2 handicap they really change their tunes and treat me like a long lost relative. I make it pretty clear that I'm not... You should see the looks on their faces when I pull up in my ratty 914 and have it valet parked while dropping off my clubs.
There are pricks on the east coast and pricks on the west coast. If you let the pricks get you down then they have won.
My best,
An East Coast Prick

Took my teener for a drive today in the Marin Headlands, just north of the GG. Several 9xxers looked at me like I was their crack addicted cousin...and then there was the guy who tapped his wifes shoulder and pointed my black cruiser with a thumbs up:worship:...the pricks are where you find them...theres better things to do!
I love the 914 Club. I think it's the best 914 resource available. East coast/ West coast?? Who cares? It makes little difference to me.
Scott, its not the east coasters it is the Yankees you have to deal with way up there in Yankee land. Their mother didn't teach them any manners nor did she teach them how to be polite to other people. Come to a southern event and you will meet some great teeners. We don't have a stick up our ass.
Yes, Yankees can be a problem.

This place rocks. I think we're just jealous because you guys have all the great rust-free tubs. I've personally gotten nothing but sage advice whenever I have a question. (Please, no jokes about parsley, rosemary, and thyme.)
Seeing as how I can almost spit into the Atlantic Ocean from my office, you can't get any further to the East Coast than I am - and I the 914club. So the rest of the east coast rabble must be

We will try to help you to really understand Texas and the people that live here. But I figure that you are such a west coast weenie that you would never venture this far east...... Silly boy....we always keep ours loaded, ya doan wana miss a Yankee fan when the opportunity arises.
Iffin ya gave Texas an enema (and they do deserve one...they're so fulla shit), they would shrink to the size of Rhode Island.
Longhorns and Long Necks....Nowhere but Texas
Gee... I'm from the East and I would have said hello.
I couldn't make it to Hershey because a friend's mother died last week and the funeral was in Hagerstown, Md. Saturday at 1:00... we would have had to get up super early, get to Hershey (and consider that there would have been some traffic at Carlisle because of the all-GM Nationals show there), run like hell through the swap meet, and then boogie back down the road so I could attend the service. We cut our losses and worked on Babydoll.
Oh well, I'd just like to take the opportunity to say that I enjoy the BS. Y'all are a much more freewheeling group than most other car-oriented boards that I have participated in. It's kind of refreshing.
Oh, by the way, the brewpub in Harrisburg is called the http://www.abcbrew.com and it is fantastic.
The local PCA show..4 other 914 owners...two said they don't give a crap about the internet, one didn't "surf", the last said he might check us out, but his car doesn't need anything.
With the bug guys I'd say 60%+ don't even know what the internet is....as one said to me "isn't that crap just for little kids" and "I have better things to do with my time".
Also good guy's like MikeG got flamed on the old boards and will never come back...even though they do use the buy and sell part of this board.
Some people think that everyone is on the internet...they're not.

Or in Miles' case
Lets Put this in perspective.
You met some assholes while you were at a swap meet? And because that swap meet was in PA, East Coast guys are snobs/assholes???? Hmm.
If you said EC'ters are:
Without tact, I would agree
Cars are rustier, I would agree
Have more spendable income, I would agree
Are less likely to own a 914 as their Porsche, IWA
(see #2)
Limited in their involvment in 914's, Hmm, I would not agree, as for active racers that regularly post on this board, I feel we hold our own. I feel that during our harsh winters while the west coast guys are enjoying reasonable weather, we actually post more.
Expect someone to do what they say they will do, yes EC'ers do.
Probably going to pick the correct Hershey Swap meet to go to, yes, we will, and it is in April almost every year. You will find everything there, some willing to dicker and some willing to dick-you.
As for West Coast swaps, Maybe this isn't a good representation, but I have been to the Pomona Swap, Some good, some bad, but people trying to sell me Replica Fuchs for factory. It must have been the accent. Thinking they could get over on some Dumbass New Englander guy asking "how much for dem wheels" and "I paahked my cah ova theyya" No, it's not a Honder, its a Chrysla" "with a two point tree lita". Naw, goin to see me ma, laita" "Been wohken on my ninefahhteen"" bout yout"? Ben hanging round down da squareah" "nothing down theyeah, cept skimmas and skiddas. Thems ya lobstamn, and ya lubamn.
Yeah, Here on the east coast we have our own languge, but at least every sentence does'nt start and end with Dude, or bitching. Can't we all just have a beer and get along.
Erik Madsen
all in good fun. Do you think you can translate my southie accent. Even though I am not from southie, I'm from Missouri, the state that could not make up its mind where the war would take place. LOL...
you all are taking my post incorrectly
i said most of the teener i talked to at hershey did not like the club, not that they were snobs
they just said they dont like the club for the BS and "lack of info"
THEY SAID WHAT!?
M
So what if there's BS... just skip over that stuff. Old cars are supposed to be about having a good time. Why else do so many guys who are into old cars also have a refrigerator full of beer in the garage?
