914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Boxster shifter cable ends

After I got the shifter cable bridge adjuster on, and pushed the spring back on the cables so I could pop them out, the cable on the left, next thing I seen a washer fall out, and later noticed a retainer.

Is that all there is to holding that cable on, just that black retainer?
I'm guessing the mechanic put that washer on for some reason, or is there another part that goes on there in place of that washer??
I didn't see any other parts that would be in there, using Ebay as a reference, other than the ends.

All you need to retain the head of the left shifter cable (the piece with the spring that retains the cable) is the black plastic pin. Not sure where the washer came from, but it's not part of the cable head.

It's missing that white bushing. I don't know if he lost it, or what, but looks like he tried to use the smaller hole in the washer to locate it. No wonder the shifting wasn't that great.

I wonder if it is possible to just be able to buy that bushing, or am I going to have to get the whole end?

I would recommend just getting a whole new end. The white bushing is either press-fit or glued in, and you need the bushing to stay in the cable end. You could probably find a bushing that will fit (with a little tweaking) at a hardware store, but I think you'll be happier in the long run with a new end.

I got a new cable end for it, and used the tool to adjust the cable ends, but I think there is something else that is either worn, or needs adjusted?

Most of the time it goes in gear like hot butter, but then other times I have trouble getting it in gear. Seems like I can't hit it right all the time for some reason. Is there anything else that I need to check?
