914World.com _ 914World Garage _ noisy door check straps !

How easy is it to fix noisy door check straps , as door opens the strap moves and clicks before the door fully opened . Have not taken door liner off to look as the car is not mine yet !

Been covered recently. 99% sure your hole in door strap is worn out and or the pin in door is also worn out. 914Rubber makes both the oversize pin and the door repair kit. Best to do both.

Just be forewarned that the 914R oversized pin will not fit in an unworn door jamb bracket and the 914R stay’s oversized hole will still snap with a stock pin. So you’ll need to either enlarge the door jamb bracket pin holes to fit 914R parts or find a used non “ovaled” door stay to use with your stock pins

I couldn't use the 914 Rubber pins either. They are too big and started to bend the strap ears.

I'd rather live with the snap than break my car.

Sounds like we need to send feedback to Mark at 914Rubber and let him know there is a problem.

Maybe a bushing in the door jam bracket made of brass that would accept the standard pin would solve the problem??

Basically, you need this.

A perfectly round hole in both the door stay arm and the receiver that's on the car.
Both need to be the same size hole.
And the pin needs to fit tight without any slop in both the arm and the receiver.

Absent any of the above, and you'll have a noisy door stay mechanism.

Having machined up SS stops. Since car body has near perfect std hole for the pin we will drill these new stops with the same sized hole. Will also use std pins checked for dia. Should stop the annoying clicking.

We made thes originally for my car. When i checked the size i didn't want it to be too loose. As we would have the same popping sound as the slack was sprung forward. Easy enough to take sone off for a perfect hole. Only problem is you will nedd to know if yours is perfect.

Ill turn some down whats actual perfect size?
