914World.com _ 914World Garage _ Dash reface: 3M double-sided tape.

Well, I'm about the replace the basket-weave (or brick) fabric on the dash face myself. Originally took the material to an upholstery shop (gonna do the dash top too - they did a good job on that) and even took the old piece as a pattern and explained to the guy, don't cut holes unless there is already a hole cut in the old piece. Seems he couldn't resist cutting out the holes on either side of the cigarette lighter. screwy.gif When I went to pick the piece up, I say to the guy - WTF? Didn't you look at the piece I brought in? He shrugs his shoulders, the problem is he doesn't speak english so he probably didn't understand what I wanted/needed. So, what I am looking to buy is the right 3M double sided tape to reattached the metal to metal back on the dash face. Been to 3M's web site and couldn't seem to find the right one. Anyone know the 3M product number for the correct double-sided tape? dry.gif

You can use carpet glue.

I am clueless on that. What about trying any off the shelf double sided tape? I guess you probably don't want real thick stuff, which I would consider the off the shelf double sided tape to be. You could also do double sided carpet tape that is thin and woven.

You can use 3M upholstery spray stuff too.... you just can't get it off of you.

It's metal... weld them it.

I just used off the shelf 3M double sided foam tape, worked fine for me. If the damn vinyl hadn't shrunk I wouldn't have to worry how hard it'll be to take it apart again...
