I am a new owner of a 1975 1.8L and I want to understand from a visual standpoint what gear my 914 is in looking at the shift rod head (Haynes RM Page 89, Fig. 5.27, #24). I have been having issues with shifting alignment and I think a visual will help me understand where I am at.
Going to be replacing bushings soon.
Appreciate all your response in advance, thanks
Welcome to 914world!
Since shifting towards the rear are 1st, 3rd, 5th gears and
Pushing forward are Reverse, 2nd, 4th gears
On this image is the one at the bottom of transmission and at the rear end of the shift rod.
The pic show that it is on 1st gear.
Circled in red push all the way up and circled in yellow forward
If circled in red is half way down, and circled in yellow forward, for 3rd gear
If circled in red all the way down, and circled in yellow forward, for 5th gear.
For reassembly have several special 4mm hex head conical screws for the fastener in the bottom of the yellow circle. Use a perfect allen key and go slowly on removal, it is possible to strip it (don't ask me how I know!)
