914World.com _ 914World Garage _ case cylinder hold down bolts

Posted by: jb57tub Sep 16 2019, 08:50 PM

Should I use a little heat at the case halves to remove the cylinder hold down bolts? The case halves are not being reused. double nutting the bolts for removal. Removal all other studs will be done the same way. Thanks Jon

We use MAP gas. 2-3 minutes on the aluminum around the stud. Doesn’t hurt the case.

Thank you for the reply. Won't be reusing the case , just wanted a good safe way to extract the studs. Case was ruined by the PO tightening the oil pick-up too tight and breaking the hold down inside the case. Was a good early 1.7 case. Picked up a good 1.8 case here from an earlier add. Jon

The heat will just make it easier no matter what. I've removed hundreds of studs on 911 engines and rarely break a stud and it's just less physical effort.

The oil strainer pick up bolt is not part of the case itself.
