I am not a 914 owner as of a few weeks ago as a few people here already know. I traded my 914-6 conversion to Jon Bovey (Pee Green) for his '78 Targa 911 SC.
I think both sides are happy with the trade, I know I am. I'm moving on to a different Porsche chapter in my life.
This thing hauls ass.

Congratulations.
Well that explains a lot. Thanks the advice on the merits of the 2.4L conversion. You were instrumental on me pulling the trigger!

Posted by: Krieger Oct 5 2019, 11:57 PM
Well, that will be a great doner car for your next 914/6 project!
Congrats Larmo love the color. You will love the 911. It is just a little different than the 914.
I’m sure you will still be allowed to come and play with us.

Larmo, What engine does it have?
Posted by: Carl La Fong Oct 6 2019, 10:22 AM
You all need to stop bothering Laymo with all these nonsensical (to him) questions. He is firmly planted on the 911 section of the bird board. He will no longer have time to spend entertaining the unwashed unsophisticated 914 family. Here's a tip for Laymo, when you throw your 911 into a hard turn and the rear end starts to break loose, immediately take your foot off the throttle.
Posted by: Carl La Fong Oct 6 2019, 10:24 AM

Cool car Lawrence.
I stayed mid engine though.
I petitioned for a license plate NOTA 911.
It was taken.
Posted by: Larmo63 Oct 6 2019, 06:17 PM
The car is a Euro spec '78 911 SC. 3.0 Engine built by Jeff Hines years ago, it really still goes faaaaasssst. 915 trans w/limited slip, Tarrett sway bars, Von shocks, full cage.
The color is one year only - Fern Green. I like it, and the car was this color from the factory.
I'm doing small 'projects' on it here and there, really learning about the car.

I ventured into the 911 world back in May. Loved it so much I considered putting the 914 up for sale but decided against it, so now I have the best of both worlds! The 911's are fun cars for sure...each car has its place.
Congrats!!

Driving a 911 ,I always feel like counter steering left,,because the left front fender is pointing Right..
Posted by: mb911 Oct 7 2019, 02:41 PM
I have had them both and love them both.. I will likely have another 911 someday.. Last one was a 964.. It was a great car..
Posted by: Cairo94507 Oct 7 2019, 03:02 PM
Congratulations Lawrence. I loved your 914. Great looking car with just the right attitude. I am sure you will love the 911 and I wish you nothing but the best with it. The 3.0 is a terrific motor and with the limited slip 915 you should have lots of fun.
I have flip-flopped back and forth between 911's and 914-6's for the last 40 years. In the end the 914-6 was the winner for me. I may buy an '89 Carrera coupe one of these days if I am around long enough. That is the only 911 I really want to share the garage with the 914-6.
Cheers and I hope to see you soon. Michael

The tires aren't allowed to touch the pavement when the car is not in use. It must always be concourse presentation ready.

Rick, I don't think either of us would have problems keeping up with him on a straight, and we can definitely leave him in the corners.

Welcome to the dark side. Vehicle dynamics seriously dictate slow in and fast out. These cars can rotate easily with just a prod of the throttle at the right or wrong time. Take it out in the wet and take a 90* corner at 20 MPH and just before the apex, punch it and prepare to spin. Just make sure there is nothing you can hit. Now goose it coming off the apex and feel the difference.
Very different driving styles and levels of comfort. I can drive my SC 600 miles in a day and feel fine. 300 in a 914 is just about the limit. Refined versus raw. There is a place for each.
Enjoy your new ride. It looks awesome.

And seeing red.
Really enjoy the SC which has been extensively modified. But I love my 914-6 conversion. Yeah the 914 is so raw in comparison but the car is so fun and corners on rails which the 82 could never approach. They both have the same engine 3.0 but the 914 feels faster, probably because of proximity to the ground. But for long haul, comfort and sheer terror at the limit, the 911 wins. They each have their attributes but if push comes to shove, I will keep the 914 any day of the week.
And OP enjoy your new ride. They are indeed marvelous cars, and I mean it. Change and variety are good.
