Dear All,
I'm now busy restoring my 914, it's a 1.8 L-jet and the engine is now in the machineshop for line boring, new bearings, new heads, new cilinders/pistons, camshaft etc.
Near the engine number the letters "WD" are punched in. What does this mean?
Does it say WD on the other case side? Usually done to show you have matching case halfs.
I've never seen a stamped number there. Maybe an independent rebuilder id stamp.
I have to correct myself. Right idea but the wrong location. Numbers stamped on the front side of block to show they are matching halves.

This is from EC039874 "WI" Stamped one side only
This is from EC039329 "W?" Again one side only
Based on case/engine production numbers yours is earlier than these two so there must be some "WE" "WF" "WG" ...etc. inbetween could be date code? Good Luck
Jim
Must have been a 1.8 engine one off item? Totally new to me.
