a match.... ohmy.gif

I think THAT is beyond a simple Dye job, unless you want to dye it black, and then it's more work than it's worth... better to pull, and start over...

that is the most hideous interior I've ever seen!

Did you find that thing in the Gayman islands? icon8.gif I have died two interiors, both from tan to black. I don't recommend it because in both cars the seats would get tacky in the summer heat, and one of them actually started coming off. YES i used SEM and YES I did it correctly flipa.gif Reupholster that "THING" What does the outside look like??

Posted by: scotty b Jul 1 2005, 08:52 PM

Nice duct tape BTW laugh.gif Have you pulled any of that cloth off to make sure the original material is not there??

Posted by: jim_hoyland Jul 1 2005, 09:01 PM

I went with a camel tan interior and ended up having to have the black sunvisors and black knee pad dyed. to match the seats/doors.

To make a long story short, it worked very well. Whether it wouuld work on part that get alor of wear, I don't know.

the seller says it was the previous owner who did the custom leather Job. I'm in NY and the car is in Washington DC.
I am trying to figure out how much work it is going to get it to the point where my wife would actually take a ride with me. wub.gif
It has lots of new and reconstructed stuff. around 800 miles on a rebuilt engine. Some surface rust under the front corner windshield and rockers. (weighting to see pics of rocks and underside. the seats deed covers at the least and dash is crack. owner drives it about twice a week. keeps it away from snow and salt but has not garaged it or covered it. sad.gif It aslo will need seals replaced. he didi say if they leaked or not just listed them as needing replaced.

I am looking for a fare price and seeing if its is in my budget this year to get it anywhere near presentable. I could live with the outside color for a short shot time like maybe next summer but this custom job has got to be fixed real bad!!!!!!

You, my friend, need a can of interior trim paint... I have changed Mustang interior colors in 1 hour.

The paint is good on any surface you aren't sitting on.

Check on E-bay under 914 upholstry. There is someone on there that sells a kit to recover the door panels, and bidding starts at $40.00 (I think) It is the correct basketweave material. If the panels themselves are shot you can buy a sheet of masonite from Lowes or home depot for about $8.00. A full sheet will make 4 door panels! There is also someone on E-bay (maybe the same person) that sells a kit to recover the dash face. Again, with the correct basketweave. Our own Morphenspectra also has a lot of great products on E-bay as well as here in the vendors area.

Real easy fix is take it all out.

There are many 914's running non interior for many reasons...

Mine is one of them...

take it out. door panles ok but what about dash

Posted by: Andyrew Jul 3 2005, 03:28 PM

Its just a piece of fabric... its glued on. Rip it off, or cut it out... a razor would work good.

As far as the guage cluster... take it out.. mark all the wires, take the guages out of the piece of metal and repaint it.

Should take you an hour to do everything for the first time.

Good luck! You'll be much happier. Oh ya, You might want to cut the fabric on the door panels to see if the original basketweave is still under there.

IF....You don't HAVE to have leather, seats can be redone in vinyl for like 350 for the pair....figure 200 for the rest of the car....

Posted by: tat2dphreak Jul 3 2005, 09:40 PM

if interior is the only thing holding you back, go for it, I bought GREAT stock seats for $75 each... I spent more on door panels, but that's because I wanted custom... interior is pretty cheap on these cars in the grand scheme... but I would look over that car with a fine tooth comb for rust... and shitty repairs of rust...

Lou,

I like MOMO, but that steering wheel blows barf.gif Did you see the fireworks at Soboba tonight? Drinking some wine on the balcony doing a little WiFi.

Just missed it, neighbor told me that they were gonna have their fireworks tonight, I could hear the sound bouncing off the hills behind me, (Simpson Park). Yea you probably had perfect seats from where you are. Tomarrow fireworks brought to us by Valley Wide. smile.gif

Thanks for the advice. I am still waiting for pics of the longitudes and rockers. It has been several days and the seller still hasn't sent me those pics. Assuming the longitudes are solid and the car is still for sale when I get back from my vacation in a couple weeks I think I may go for it. smile.gif

Make sure to get some good pics (note: multiple and varied) of the Hell Hole (under the battery) That is another VERY important area. As many here can tell you it is usually alot worse than it may appear and a proper repair CAN be as much as $1500.00. At it's werst this area will actually extend into the suspension console and engine mount, so you want to give that area a good twice over as well.

as quickly as possible... unsure.gif

a welding helmet would also be a good idea, to minimize damage to your eyes...

If you want leather, look on ebay. There are people that sell dyed hides for about $100. That would be more than enough leather to cover your door panels and dash. God speed. biggrin.gif

here is one of the pics he sent me. as far as I can tell it looks faily clean.

Wow...I usually never comment about personsonal tastes but man ....
In the last year I have seen people try to change out or sell out thier Brn interior. It shouldn't be that hard to find, or collect the pieces over time in black then swap it for a brown, but it if it in your budjet, go for the re-appolster.
I don't know if CTripp still has his set for sale.
I hope it works out for you...if not, I am seeing members finding some good examples (cars) on the East coast now...

Anywhichway it goes, I wish you luck, Welcome aboard.
Later

I just got the pics of the underside to day and am posting them in a new forum.

as far as dash cracks what is the best way to go: $80 topper, replace with nice used one $250 or have it recovered $500?
