914World.com _ 914World Garage _ how to identify a 1974 headlight switch

Posted by: brant Jan 13 2020, 12:09 PM

a guy is selling a bunch of misc. parts.
a couple of headlight switches are in his for sale items.

I love the idea of having a spare switch for my 74

does anyone know how many pins, or how to identify which one fits a 74?

thanks in advance

Slits says,
My suggestion is to use a "known good" used one.

There are two ...

Early is 10 pin

Later is 11 pin

Which do you need?

well I'm taking a gamble... as the seller didn't test it
but the price was right... and its a back up to my street car (11pin)
going to get it and put it in my travel spares.
thank you all!!!!!!

The early is an aluminum case. The later like you need are zinc and fuller finish.

How can you test a used switch before you install?

Posted by: JeffBowlsby Jan 14 2020, 02:22 PM

Just test the continuity or resistance of each circuit, as per the attached diagram.

Mine fissed out when the dimmer went south so got a spare from a vendor on here and got later one (11pin),bridged out the dimmer cause running LED strips in my gauges ...don't need no shi#ty dimmer,my old switch had other issues too so worth doing.
